I usually water the girls in the morning when the lights come on. I know they will wilt a little at night, but I have seen major wiltage. I started watering at night before put to bed and seems to be helping. Since I am all new to this, is there an iron clad way to determine waterings? I use a 2 gallon pump bottle, and 16 plants eat it all up on a single watering.
I water when I turn my lights on to keep humidity down.
Are you growing in soil?
What size pots?
Sounds like they need more water. I grow in 2 and 3 gallon bags and they use almost 1 gallon each, every 3rd day usually.
You want to feel the weight of the pot when its dry, and then again when its watered. Big difference. I can tell by picking up my pot if it needs water or not.
16 plants huh
How bout some pictures.
Yup (back to the roots organic soil)
5 gal cloth, couple have 10 gal.
I did some plant shifting as my one runtz was getting to big for one tent⌠and even though I watered hours before, was amazing light.
I usually do a 10 count with the wand. Sometimes I see runoff, sometimes not.
Thats the issue then.
They like a drench to drought routine.
I would water to runoff everytime.
They should a minimum of 1 gallon each in those size pots I feel to fully saturate the soil.
If you have to water twice in the same day it needs more. That would explain wilting.
You have your hands full there.
I like it!
Since I am older and waking up with the birds (a requirement of being/getting old) Itâs fill 2 gallon water bottle, add cal and potassium, check ph, make coffee and water plants. Itâs a routine. Like I said the night waterings help so maybe I was choking my poor little girls.
I suspect night watering helped because it minimized evaporation and gave the girls time to drink more. Same for 4 gal a day.
I have 9 girls going and by 5 weeks they were drinking almost a gallon each, daily. Now I am in straight coco, in 3 gallon fabric pots, so Iâm sure thereâs a difference, but 2 gal for 16 seems like a very small amount. It may not even be getting to the lower roots since itâs in soil.
From the size of your potâs do a little reading on here and see if more water, less frequent would work better for you. I grew in containers outside and only watered every 2 or 3 days. I let the soil tell me when to water.
You may even want to get a moisture meter / probe that sticks in the soil about 10"s or so with a needle display %. There not very accurate for the cheap ones but they will give you a reference.
Had every âlow costâ soil meters that Amazon offers and they all seem to stop working after a few days. Temps are a little crazy now with LED drivers, but usually around 70 to 94. Humidity 55 to 70.
Big room dehumidifier and 6 inch manual exhast fans on tents.
I still think your girls would like a big drink less often than smaller more frequent drinks.
I left the quotation marks spaced in my post above to make it easier to copy and paste into the search bar, thereâs a bunch of threads about this. See if you can find one which aligns closely to your situation and what the resolution was.
Try this one, he mentions his got better after switch to watering every two days.
Thank you for the input. I am new and learning the features, just getting my post count rolling. I have read tons on waterings. You would think something as easy as a plant, but nooooooo⌠so many complexities. Thank you for your time.
Sure is. If regular soil drench/drought. Soakem. I mean fully soak them. No more water till pots get light. Soakem. Rinse repeat all the way. If turn it to living soil keepmoist. Finger to second knuckle. Dry water. Damp wait. Underwater is better than over. Overwatering is not how much you give at a time. It is how wet the soil around your roots stays. Quickest way.to start if not sure is wait till light and thirsty. Water to runoff. I do it in stages. 1/3,1/3,1/3 allowing water to soak into dirt not run out the sides. Pick it up or just some lift pressure. Note weight. Dry it with no water till light. Compare weights. That is your drench/drought. Roll on. I am in living soil.so stay moist but before this i was like most with synthetic nutrient lines requiring a wet/dry cycle. Good luck and overthinking stresses. Find a simple routine and stick to it. The plants will thank you. Just my thoughts.
