My latest grow (Durban Poison Auto) dried for 10 days and has been curing (in C-Vaults) for 16 days. I checked it last night by rolling a joint (actually 2) and it wouldn’t stay lit and the ash was black. The RH is 60%. I did everything the same as my previous grows. Can I do anything to save the harvest, if so, what? Or should I just count it as a loss and make concentrates and edibles with it? Any ideas as to the cause of the black ash?

Some flower produces black ash, some white. I’ve read it can be the result of residual nutes but your flower is probably just fine. I don’t know anyone who uses that as an indicator of bad weed.

Most time the moisture content determines ash color and harshness to some degree. 60 percent should be good, maybe like @Myfriendis410 said, just dark genetics.

What was the moisture level deep in the buds after the dry? Could be a bit wet still if it’s real dense.

Even if I just have a tiny 2 ounce Runtz, I’ll do better next go round.
The micro machine was 100% intentional.
It’s a community challenge that multiple ppl are doing together.
Maybe 4 Auto Flowers in my grow box this next season.
I’m thinking Runtz, White Rhino, Blue Cheese, and Blueberry. All auto flower.
That way it’s worth it to have a grow going on.

Not staying lit is usually from moisture. How are you determining the weed is at 60% rh?

Small hygrometer in each C-Vault.

Check accuracy of the hygrometer with a known source. Something like a fresh boveda pack or I believe you can find instructions online to do it with salt water.
The small ones are notoriously not very accurate.

I know that the accuracy is not great so I use them just to track trends (always the same one and the same container). I have three C-Vaults of this material, each with its own hygrometer and they all read within 2% of each other.

Have u tried to take a bud or 2 out c vault and let dry more for like 2 hours or so and roll that see how it does. Ifnit smokes good just open all c vaults for an hour then close and check again and keep doing til at ur desired rh or it burns how u want it to burn. If ur gonna extract any of it id suggest leave it at the rh its at if a slight bit hogh and extract that. If smoking flower then dry a bit more. Ive never really experienced black ashes on. Ine but ecer sonce ny second grow ive been badically extract and dab. Lol. Taste is alot cleaner im not ingesting oaper or plant material just what hets ne buzzed. Lol. Oh did i say the taste is impecable compared to smoking flower form
