Super dark leaves, I'm going to chop it!

Hi Folks,

Anyone have any idea what on earth is happening here? This Royal Haze Auto is 76 days old, in day 46 of flower. The data sheet says 55-60 days of flower (as 85-95 days from seed to harvest)), but given that the leaves are turning so dark purple and other weird colours, I’m thinking of just chopping it now. I’ve been looking at the Trichomes under 60x magnification, and they are still clear/opaque, with NO amber at all except on sugar leaves.

The buds have been getting bigger and bigger, with loads of bright green new growth/calyxes, which emerged after I upped the organic nutes quite significantly a few weeks back (from BioBizz). Anyways, the buds look healthy to me (assuming the new growth is not a sign of distress, which I worry it might be) but the plant itself looks *****ed, if I’m honest. Any thoughts? It gets to about as low as 18.5c in the tent when lights are off (and as high as 25c when on), in case that at all explains the discolouration.

Thank you!

Just know that chopping early can lead to headaches and anxiety! Hope she works out like you want.:oncoming_fist:

As in, can cause growers uncertainty and concern as growers; or do you mean those might be the effect of the plant once consumed? (I want the opposite in fact, obviously!!!I don’t have to chop it down asap. In fact whether I might or should is really my question. Buds aside, the rest of the plant looks totally bizarre. Some parts have really dark purple almost black leaves, other parts have really pale leaves mixed with purple almost pink. In your view, @Growdoc does it look generally ok still for this stage? That none of it is green anymore, except for the new calyxes, is throwing me totally.

Your plant is in the finishing stages. Many folks lust for the coloring that you are seeing.

Don’t chop early.

Color is not an indicator of being done, as growers, we strive to get the deep dark purples from our plants when genetics support color, we also use a few tricks to bring colors out near the end. The anxiety and racy high I was referring to is the effects when consuming early chopped weed. You sound like you like yours like I do mine, I want to relax, be pain free and sleep like a log. To achieve that, you’ll want to let them go until your trichomes are 30 percent amber and rest milky, that will be some good sleep meds there! A good scope to check trichs is a must, there are some decent ones for around $30 or less on Amazon and they Bluetooth to your phone for display. Main thing you need growing is PATIENCE! :squinting_face_with_tongue:

Thanks @plumbdand! I appreciate the clarity of your advice: trichomes not leaves. I guess my post is really about leaves, in this case: with almost no green left, turning purple, black, even pink, I was alarmed. As @merlin44 says, many folks want this, but I’ve been fearing that I’ve been doing something that is causing this discolouration, and that this discolouration was a sign of something going array.

Nothing from the seed bank’s data sheet, nor any pictures they’ve provided of finished colas, show any sign of this purple weirdness, though obviously some strains do have purple colours. Hence my feeling something dubious was up.

If you been doing the same as normal I wouldnt worry. Leaf shape and edges look healthy. Color is amazing. Shoot its possible you have a seed mix up. If you look up RH auto images, some similar looking to yours come up as pink mist auto. Doesnt look like sick or dying leaves.

Those are some beautiful colors. Dieing leaves will be dry and wilted and not as pretty or as healthy as yours. As cannabis ripens it goes through a phase called the fade. The colors will start to fade, even the pretty colors on your plant will begain to fade. some leaves will die the vibrancy will fade. This can go on for weeks as she finishes so dont chop at the sight of dying leaves. Its the plant using up the nutrients stored in them, that it no longer needs. Just like fall colors on trees before they finaly die a d fall off
