When is it time?

I can tell when photoperiod plants are ready to harvest by the usual indicators, however this little auto (Purple Kush) grows differently than your usual. Instead of typical bud structures these kind of dense clusters of small leaves form around the flowering situation. I just can’t tell when the plant is good to harvest. It’s about a foot high and just over 10 weeks old from seed. It flowered early at 3 weeks. I would be hard pressed to say if the growing has “slowed down” as the whole thing has felt rather slow.
What do you think?

Moving in closer…

She looks like she is seeding
I had a superskunk do the same thing she got stressed and strated putting all of her energy into seed production
As far as telling wether or not she is ready I use a magnifier to look at the trichomes. Depending on what your going for in the head or full couch lock
Mostly cloudy tichs will be more heady and all cloudy with some amber will be more couch lock and all amber is almost too ripe and the buds start to degrade at this point
Though some just look for 70% red hairs and then harvest

Seeding, really? I’m not sure I would mind if that’s true. Anyway as far as red hairs go, the deal seems to be that there aren’t many hairs to begin with and when they go amber they blend into the purple. I’m having trouble seeing them, although if I move in really close it makes for some stunning pictures.

Thanks @Growit
Also I don’t have a magnifier to get a closer look at the trichomes. I can see there’s a lot um though.

pretty colors @Joseph49

Thanks.
I’m going to borrow my neighbor’s magnifier now lol

Right. So my friend said… duh the trichomes are cloudy. Like, he totally used the word duh k? So, you guys are experts lol? I’m probably going to pull the plant tomorrow, and if it’s too soon then I guess I’ll have you guys to blame. That’s right total strangers are always to blame for all of my problems.
Anyway isn’t it exciting? I’m going to harvest a tiny plant that looks like it’s going to yield about 3 grams of questionable purple weed lol

It’s really pretty. Shame there’s so little of it. Quick googling tells me it’s only supposed to get about a foot tall. They’d be great for SOG.

The other auto purple Kush I have, from the same source is 3 weeks younger but already like 4 feet tall, gangly, totally different phenotype, and starting to flower. And not purple, yet.

@Joseph49, @AnneBonny - couple of close ups from my Amnesia Haze Autos. As a newbie, hoping folks can give me their two cents on whether these look “cloudy” yet…

It’s hard to tell. They look cloudy but this is the part I’m the worst at (seeing cloudy vs clear). I don’t see any amber. How far into flower is she? It also depends on the effect you are looking for @sweet1231

@AnneBonny Thanks so much for your advice in both threads. yeah, I don’t see any see any amber either. And since this is my first harvest, I’m not sure what really qualifies as cloudy - so I think I may have another week or so left. They’re autos that got going around May 15th so they’re on about week 8/9 or so. But I keep reading how I need to flush them for a week prior to cutting them down - well, I hate to stop feeding them too early OR too late so that’s the catch-22 for me.

Really hoping I learn as much as I can with these autos because the bubble gum / ak 47 fems I’ve got up next are huge in comparison. Didn’t hurt that I topped, the topped, then topped them again. Plus I’ve been tying down branches like crazy. My current fear (because I grow outside and I’m in a neighborhood) is the fems might be large enough that their smell my attract unwanted attention. The three relatively small autos were one thing, three fems that are all triple the size of the autos, might be another. Good problem to have, right.

@Drinkslinger, holy…moly. And I thought I took some pretty good close up photos. Guess it’s time to up my ‘pic taking’ game. Thanks for the education on timing. To be honest, I haven’t had a huge amount of luck (pain relief) with cbd specific oils but a 50/50 blend of cbd/thc seems to work better. While heavier doses of thc are even more effective, they pretty much knock me down - motivation wise. That’s true even for the strains that are supposed to be more on the energetic end of the scale.

I’m hoping that growing my own, knowing what I’m putting in my body and where it came from and how it was produced might make a difference.

Thanks again.

@sweet1231 that’s what we’re all shooting for. My aim is to eventually grow all my own meds, and then when I have a bigger space, all my own veggies, too.

She looks close, but you really need more magnification to get a good look. What looks ready to the naked eye may need several more weeks in reality, upon closer inspection.

You don’t have to spend a ton of money, but you should get a jewellers loupe or a small microscope. My best tool is a lens I got out of a laser pointer. I put it in a loop of wire, to hold it from the edges, and then tape the whole deal to the back of my phone. Sounds ghetto, but works great. Then I just record video zoomed way in. Watching the video, you can pause and take stills of clear shots of the trichomes.

@elheffe702, thanks elheffe. Will do.

You can also go by the pistil color:

I have also read of growers going by leaf color, waiting for leaves to show signs of being used up.

I dont recommend going by pistils though. Some spit new pistils constantly as they age. N most plants continue growing new budsites even as the original ones mature. So u may have 75% perfect buds n 25% new growth.

True. You kinda have to use all of the above as a whole, and look at the plant as a whole, too. Each thing to check is good to check.
