I have seen several references under harvesting about the ‘trim’ being used to make “water hash”. A search of the site didn’t return any hits… Now I’ve been smoking (and growing when possible) since '69, but have never come across a reference to water hash. Most of the trim these days goes into the burn pile - stuff we would have killed for back in the early seventies…

Bubble Hash using water, Ice, and sive bags to harvest trichomes for making hash, plenty of info on it, there are simple methods with just buckets or buy small portable washing machine.
Here is a fine place to start he has plenty of vids out there, he passed away quite awhile ago.
If you do try making bubble hash it is so worth it. I made a bunch this winter and smoke some every day. If I had to choose between dab, hash or flower I’d pick the hash. If you research some you will find out about fresh frozen. Basically wet trim the buds, bag them and put in a freezer then wash in ice water when ready to extract. For about 3 grows I added bags to the freezer til it seemed enough to make some hash. You can make it from dried bud too and it is still great.
I watched quite a few Frenchy videos to prepare myself which @Bentstick referenced.
Bubble hash!!!. I make it every few months, smoke it every day. I use the washing machine method, ebay has them for like 75.00. bubbledude bags are premium made, the others always seem to clog up very fast. get the machine, the bags, and do it, you won’t be disappointed.

Spent an hour last evening reviewing ‘techniques’ for making water hash. Basically, they all used a 5 gallon bucket with 5 bags of different porosity. Largest on top… Good looking bud is dumped in with ice poured on top. Distilled water is added up to the level of the buds in the bag. The slurry is ‘worked’ aggressively. It is a fiddly, lengthy process.
The theory is that the hardened tricomes will fall through and be caught by sequentially finer mesh bags below. Seems like a lot of work for not much of a reward. Now that might have been a neat trick back in the early seventies with the crappy mexican ditch weed we were smoking, but weed these days is light years away from that smoke of yore. Even less impressive when using a ‘modern’ vaporizer that doesn’t burn the smoke.
Which makes me think: how was hash made a half century or more ago? Most comes from poor, dry places like Afghanistan or Morocco. Water is scarce, ice is non-existent. Apparently the difference between kief and hash is the amount of vegetable matter left in the former - giving a harsher smoke. That was certainly the case in North Africa. ( I was in the Peace Corps renovating water wells on the fringes of the Sahara.and kief was the only game in town.) It was smoked in a little clay pipe - about the size of 1/2" copper el - with a hollow reed 6-12" long at the end. It was an intense, short-lived buzz that left one’s throat absolutely on fire. Ack… But it was all we had.
So…how was hash traditionally made centuries ago before such modern technology as tightly woven sifter fabric - and ice?
