What does everyone think about drying in a refrigerator

We bought a new fridge and put the old one in the garage I had to clean the crap our of it and put a shitload of baking soda in there. Right now it’s packed with stuff I’m gonna use to make qwet’s for edibles I also have a subzero freezer with a bunch that was fresh frozen.

I so want to try it ive herd good things about doing it that way

Hey yin’s, @Aussie_autos and all. I just watched a Dr. Bruce Bugbee interview again. In this interview he was asked re. flushing and 48hr. Darkness before harvest. He indicated that unless you over fertilized it was not helpful in indoor grows, and dark periods as well. That some push 24hr.full light. Then he said UNLESS it is COLD! That the cold could increase terpenes at the end of the life cycle. I’m wondering if perhaps ice water flushing is akin to fridge drying? I tried it with a few plants and got great citrus odors from NL autos and Lemon autos. Not exactly “peer reviewed science” if you can remember when that was a thing. But the cool temps seems to be a common denominator.

I can hook up a ducting between the tent and my aircon i sit the ducting in the front vent of the aircon and i can keep it at a nice 20-24 degrees Celsius having the cold air blowing into tent

…Cool!..

When I dried in the fridge I had it set at the lowest temperature possible. It took at least 2 weeks to dry, checked with a moisture meter. 11-12% is what I’m looking for. After I take it out I keep it in a tote for a day or so with a hydrometer in there. Once it’s steady at 60-62rh I put it in grove bags

old thread but would appreciate any thoughts regarding handing the buds without a wet time versus putting them in paper bags and or trimming first…

I have an unused wine fridge and would like to try this drying method…thanks

I dont know if i would dry in the fridge without wet trimming 1st. I wet trim but leave a lot of the small sugar leaves and trim them when I remove the buds from the stems after drying

Thanks for the reply …I’ve seen all kinds of posts about the fridge dry but nothing consistent on wet trimming or the hang versus putting in a paper bag

I put mine in totes with branches propped up on the sides of the tote, no lid. I move them around every other day or so. I dont use paper bags in the fridge. Not necessary

My mind is officially blown. I never would’ve thought of this. I read through this whole thread carefully. One thing I didn’t see anyone mention is a difference between an old fridge and a relatively newer frost free fridge. Frost-free fridges are constantly dehumidifying. They have an evaporator on the bottom and actively remove the humidity. The lower the humidity the less frost stuck to the ice cream tub after you put it back in covered in condensate. It cycles to just above freezing (in freezer) for very short cycles every day. Then the moisture is moved up thru the fridge and then removed thru the evaporator.

I guess I wonder (bet) that a good ole rusty fridge in the basement would not perform the same as a frost free one. Has anyone tried this in a good old fridge? Or just frost free?

You are correct it has to be frost free I have an extra fridge in my garage there’s a couple lbs of fresh frozen larf and whole branches of lower buds that I set aside for tinctures and edibles. The freezer pulls a lot of moisture out quickly but it still needs to dry a little when you take it out. The fridge, I leave it in there for 2-3 weeks then take it out and dry for a day
