I use grove bags for curing, but for long term storage, it seems to leave a lot of kief in them.
I use jars and grove bags so far I like what comes out of the grove bags better but Iāve only been using the bags for 2 months. As far as long term storage I donāt know yet. Weāll see.
Iām all about the grove bags
I use jars also. Although I donāt really grow on the scale that most here do, so I donāt have a lot of flower to worry about.
Me too, I just use 64oz ball jars with screw tops, got some this year from Target drive up ordering, they had 'em in stock. I stick a Boveda 62% after theyāre cured. This year I had about 6-1/2 jars, but didnāt pack 'em too tight, I probably could have smashed them into 4 jars if I was inspired, but donāt like them packed like that.
Just started using Grove bagsā¦ so far so good!
Jars lightly packed vacuum sealed. 1/2 pint to 1 pint jar mostly 1/2pint large mouth boil lid put on vacuum seal seal scew on lid ring.
Back in the day when I smoked everyday I would buy pounds to save money (sure thatās why I did it) and seal them same way minus vacuum sealer (donāt think they existed back then) did heat a little with hair dryer though to get air hot then boiled lid and sealed. Could hear vacuum give way when opened. We opened jars that got lost for a couple of years (lots and lots of weed) seemed to us to smoke and taste the same. Also no humidity test probably dryer than stored today.
Iāve only used them for one harvest. Basically you need to dry first and then bag them. The first time I used them I got lucky and hit the mark on proper dry levels. All the bags were at 58-62% humidity. Iāve seen some, I believe @Audiofreak was using a moisture meter that is used to measure moisture in lumber. You can get one Home Depot or Lowes, use it to measure moisture of buds. Once they are at 11-12% they are good to bag. Once they are bagged you donāt need to burp daily or at all.
Hereās a thread that will answer all your questions about Grove Bags
Most of us didnāt know anything about growing until we got here. BTW the title just means I got lucky 3 times.
Yep, you just stick 2 probes into bud and get reading.
I like grove bags for now. Was in jars forever but switched. No rh drop in 60 days on some that went in 62 on the nose. My house sits at 40. Just harvested a big girl. Used wedryer and now in 1lb grove bag. Wanna see how well.the 2 work together. So far so good with bags but jars lining shelf if they failā¦
What I have discovered after 2 cures in the bags, 1) the trick to the bags is to fill at 58 to 62% (10 to 13% moisture content! Only way I know to do this accurately is with the moisture meter. My results have been consistant thru 2 cures. First cure still at 58% 2nd cure still 58/60% Rh. Pulled a bud last night from latest cure (3+ months in bags) and still at 60% and looked the same as when they went in the bag! Same with previous grow at over 7 months! So the real secret is the meter getting the correct moisture readings and the bags will do what they say they do.i dont recomend over thinking this!
How long do they need to cure before use? Iām using Grove bags. Thanks.
@HeyJB I like to cure them at least 60 days but you can always smoke sooner if you donāt mind the taste. In fact, I recommend sampling right away, then in a few weeks, then in another two weeks, etcā¦ That will give you a better idea about how itās coming along.
I use Ball jars, but Grove Bags are very popular with the community here.
Good to know. Iām going to definitely be smoking this along the way. Just not vaping it early on. That chlorophyll taste is pretty much shat.
My experience is after 30 days is very smokable, at 60 days in bags it done.
For long term storage in the grove bags do I need to do anything particular? I plan on heat sealing the big bags and keeping them in a humidity controlled safe. Temp?
Make sure you leave āhead roomā in the bag (dont stuff them full).
