Trsnplanting seedlings

I am looking for advice on how to transplant my seedlings their permanent home. Seems like I usually mess up the seedling after it has sprouted in a small plastic cup into its 5 gallon pot. The soil will fall away or I can’t get it out of the plastic cup. I am thinking of trying the inch degradable paper pots and then cut the bottom out before I stick it in the 5 gallon container. Any assistance in this area would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

I cut several slits down the side of the cup and the medium will fall away generally. Letting the medium dry a little before transplant helps as well :love_you_gesture:

Have you tried just cutting the solo cup away from the plant? I make about 6 cuts from top to bottom and then peel the cup away. Those ‘degradable pots’ can sometimes take a long time to degrade and can harm the roots. While I’m new to cannabis, I’ve been using the same method I use to plant my veggies and herbs from seed. I sprout the seeds, put them in jiffy pods (a lot of people don’t like those but I always cut off the wrapper around it before I move to a solo cup). From the solo cup, cut the sides and plant into forever home. Just make sure to hold the contents of the solo cup and well as you can to keep from damaging the roots.

I’ll be awaiting other responses since there are probably so many different ideas on how to do it.

@Spiney_norman posted a brilliant method a couple days ago. Before filling the solo cup, split the cup down both sides, and slide inside another solo cup, then plant the seed. When ready to transplant, then just pull the sides apart. It’s what I’ll do from now on.

I have found the best way to transplant is to put whatever container your transplanting from i to the bigger pot. Then fill around it with medium leaving the empty solo cup in the pot. Then lightly drop the planter on the ground. Maybe 1-2 inches to compact the soil evenly. Remove the empty cup and you have a perfect hole for placing your seedling in. Now soak the seedling in the solo cup just enough to get run off and then tap the solo on the ground compacting the soil in the cup. Then tuen the cup over with seedling between your fingers and tap the bottom of the solo or even give it a little squeeze. When the seedling falls out it should be wet enough to stay together and just drop i to the premade hole in the bigger pot.

When done right the seedling doesnt even k ow it was transplanted! Except its in a bigger pot! But ZERO recovery time!

If the medium is decently wet and compacted just a little bit its stays together no problem! Thats how i transplanted these here is the over night photos! Nothing but growth!

Sounds like you may be transplanting a little early or the medium isn’t compacted adequately in the solo. Make sure it damp. It sticks together better. This is coco.

When seedlings in Solo cups are ready to be transplanted, the roots will hold the soil together and will be easily placed in a pre-made hole in the larger pot. I never have to cut my Solo cups apart to get them out for transplant. It just takes patience to let them grow enough roots to hold together. It will also make for a healthier plant having a stronger root structure going into the new home.

Awesome advice up in here for sure. I seen on another forum they were doing a solo cup challenge. How cool would that be for us to do?

Yes I agree im solocuping still with my clones and my plugs with the sprouts will still go solocup. There is a solocup challenge but it might be just a post.
