Grow bag and transplant

@Bubbala @kellydans @OGIncognito
So I have read that the best way to start is a seedling in a red cup and when leaves are about as wide as the cup transfer to a 10 inch wide pot, then transfer again to the final pot.
I have 7 gallon grow bags with happy frog soil to grow the ladies in.
Question#1.
I also picked up some 1 gallon fabric grow bags which are pretty small. So would it be good idea to bypass the red cup for the seedling, and put the sprouted seedlings in the 1 gallon fabric pot, then transplant only once to the 7 gal fabric grow bag?.
Question#2
If going that route how long should wait for plant to grow before transplanting into 7 gallon bag?.

I feel they would develop a better root system not skipping the solo cups.
I have 2 plants started in solos now. I am going to do a test and do this both ways.
When ready for transplant:
1 plant will be planted in their final 3 gallon.
The other will go in a 1 gallon and transplant into final 3 gallon 1 week before light flip.
I feel 3 gallon works for me as my plants have to stay under 40" to keep me from supercropping.
Then I can compare the 2 and the root systems after harvest.

Solo cup for root development, then 3 gallon plastic pot, then 10 gallon fabric pot for me. The reason I use a plastic pot is because it can be a real bitch to get those plants out of a 1 gallon fabric pot. I used to do that, but not anymore. But we’re talking about photos here. Autos would go from solo cup to final pot which would be fabric.

I prefer solo cup to their forever home. 1 transplant and done :love_you_gesture:

same as @OGIncognito, seedlings go into a solo cup with a clear solo cup dome (hole punched in top of clear and several holes in the bottom of red solo cup). Wait until they get some decent leaves and into 3-5 gallon fabric. It’s a pain in the butt to get plants out of fabric for transplant. With solo cups, you cut in several places around the lip of the cup. Then peel it like a banana, comes out clean and pop in their final pot. A little tip, in your big pots put an empty solo cup and fill the dirt around it. Then just pull the cup out and you have a perfect hole for the tranplant. I also use mykos during every transplant. Helps root growth.

Actually, better to start in clear cup that resides inside the red cup. allowing easy visual access for viewing root development, IMO

Some good info above. I would only use fabric for final pot. Roots will grow into and through a fabric pot making transplant difficult and harder on plants trying to remove them.

Thanks for the tag , I go from a seedling cup to final home 5 or 7 gallon fabric pots for indoor grow. Good luck :v:

Just outa curiosity when you go from solo cup to final pot, how long roughly do you wait to do the transplant? If it is when the leaves hang over the edge of the solo cop, how long does that take?.
Is there a specific amount of water that goes with each watering stage?
If it is a good idea to water till runoff, is that basically if someone is using tap water?. Because if a person is using filtered water, doesn’t that water have less stuff in it.

Around 15 days above ground or when the leaves are touching the clear solo cup dome. I also use a seedling tray and dome sometimes but still use the solo cup for germ.

Definitely, seedlings need high humidity and very little water. I make sure the medium is damp in the solo cup, place the seed after it’s cracked from a 24-36 hour water soak. A 1/4” deep hole will work. After the seed sprouts put it under light, mist the inside of the clear solo cup for the needed humidity and remove periodically for fresh air. I water about 2 shot glasses every 3-4 days. Day 15 or so and transplant.

I moisten the medium for the transplant and as @Highwayman420 mentioned an empty solo cup when filling the pot with medium makes a great hole for the transplant. The pic was around day 4 after the transplant and I water a ring about 4” from the main stem to promote root growth. I used about 8 ounces or a full cup. I don’t water to run off until around the end of week 2ish of veg.

You’ll need a good cannabis friendly medium like Fox Farm, HP etc. a PH and TDS pen will be needed to check the input PH and PPMs as well as run off of these 2 once it’s time to check this. I can’t stress enough how important these 2 pieces of equipment are for a successful grow. Good Lighting, nutrients and environmental conditions are the key. These are the basics Grow Bro and do some research on PH, PPMs, and methods used to check these :love_you_gesture:

@anon52654037 I use a regular garden seedling cup And when I see roots growing out the bottom of the little holes in the cup. Usually a couple of weeks I transplant to find home. I Don’t wait for leafs to hang out the side of the cup. After transplant water in a circular pattern. Don’t overwater, When the plants are small you don’t need to water to run off. @OGIncognito Has pictured a great example of watering small plants…

I lie to start with the clear and red solo cups. Sowing me to monitor root growth.

I next transfer to a fabric 1 gallon grow bag. Once transplanted to the 1 gallon i have about 1.5 months to transplant to the 100 gallon forever homes.

This style of transplanting works for me and my style of growing.

Happy farming…
