I used the soil and ingredients from apotforpot.com. The plant i started in a small pot and then started to stretch, so i tried move the plant with the soil to the fabric pot but the soil just crumbled apart and the roots were showing. I was wondering i see people on here recommend to start in a solo cup, how do you transplant it in a pot with keeping the soil together?
Thanks
Very carefully. When I transplant, I use both hands and scoop out the medium and the plant together and just keep pressure on your hands to keep it in a ball. Make sure you have your new pot ready with a hole for the ball… (sorry I just giggled a little)
I do a couple of things to prepare. First I fill my bigger pot placing an empty solo cup where I intend to put my transplant. Remove before the transfer of course. Make sure my cup I’m going to transfer has some moisture to it to aid in holding rootball together. I roll the cup in my hands to loosen edges. Put hand over top of cup with plant stem between 2nd and 3rd fingers. Turn cup upside down, slide out, place in the indention. Works well for me when I do solo cups
Next time just leave it in the cup. When you go to transplant you can put the plant in a little deeper.
as long as the roots are not trashed, they should be ok.
but, very delicate handling. wanna do it easy? fill a big bowl with ph’d water and lower cup to loosen n remove roots.
Since i dont think i will be able to transplant this, you think i can move this in a bigger pot while it stays in the same small pot its in?
Hey @First_time-grower , Welcome
They are stretching out looking for more light.’
So …What are you using for light?
How far away is it?
What kind of soil are those in?
This will get us started
They will have to come out of those pots when you do transplant. Use some wire to prop them up and move them closer to the light…
Thanks norman, I’m using a 60 watt blue grow light, incandescent, that I picked up from home depot. I just been using the light for one week but been growing 3 weeks since i germinated my seed(white widow autoflower feminized from seedsman.com). I started by using the sun but realized it wasn’t a enough. It gets 12+ hours of light and 8 hrs of darkness. Its about 8 inches from the light. Also the soil is from apotforapot.com. It is Aeration Top Soil Mix with superb soil on the bottom of the pot.
Had a feeling it would have to come out, I’m just nervous since the soil isn’t compact and airy. I do have it close to the light, i thought if i move it closer it will dry out the leaves. Also, I have a question about watering, when watering should you water until you see a little water drain through the pot and into the pot saucer? And what king of wire should I use?
Thanks
Be prepared to make mistakes as you learn. Read some of the advice found in this forum. Above all, be patient. I will say now that what works for me may not work for you. I would use copper wire but any kind would work. I don’t water my plants as much as some. I use an eyedropper to water my seedlings. About a teaspoon every few days for the first week or so. Put the water at the base of the plant. Once they have their first full leaf I switch to about a half jigger of water. I wait until the top of the soil is dry before I water. This will encourage the roots to spread out. Leave your seedlings in the cup for at least a month for autoflowers and a little more for photoperiods. You want the roots to start growing around the cup. I usually transplant when the soil is dryer. Give it a few days past your normal watering and if the roots are good enough the whole ball should come out easily into one hand.

Thanks, great advice I like it.
You wait until the plant has enough roots to hold the soil together before you transplant. You know you’re at this point when you have to water it every day after watering it fully to runoff.
If u wait til the first or second set of leaves touch the sides of the cup usually is a good point to transplant roots are developed enough by then but start autos off in their final home skip the solo cup part. Autos cant have the stress a photo can handles
Been over 30 days of growing from germinating and finally the leaves are producing more and growing.
So what is the latest on the grow man?
