Trimming- Bowl trimmers

Good morning, and so on. I was curious on people’s thoughts on bowl trimmers. I got one for my last run and wasn’t too familiar with it. Folks on you tube seem to hate them a couple like them. But my first time around I did dry trim, and didn’t pay to much attention to the starting weight. But ended up with 4.5 oz of smokeable buds and 2.2 oz of fluff and trichs. As it’s just for me I didn’t care too much, used the rest for edibles. Win, win.

So this time I decided to do a wet trim and I will throw some numbers out to see if it took off more than it would if I hand trimmed. I know more folks hand trim than not and weigh out pre and post.

So I weighted each run in the trimmer to 100 Gr except the last which 554 grams and got the following after cleaning.
-94gr
-92gr
-89gr This was the popcorn nugs
-93gr
-92gr
-48gr This was the last run
TTL= 508 with 45gr in the bowl. Still not a waste as it will be used.

So with this do you feel the bowl took too much off? Is it right on par with hand trimming?

Looks like you did it correctly. I have a 19" trimmer we use which reduced our trim jail time from days down to 45 minutes. Wet trim only.

We also separate out some nice tops and hand trim those which get jarred along with the bowl trimmed flower. The trim is then used to make concentrates.

I had always wet trimmed by hand and tried dry trimming with a trim bowl this time. Ended up with 4 lbs of dried bud so that cut my trim jail time down by days :rofl: still have to process all the trimmings, but i pressed a bit and got excellent returns out of just trim.

I love my bowl trimmer. I do a rough wet hand trim to get the big leaves off, and run them through the bowl trimmer. Works great for me. Then I use the bowl trimmings to make oil.

I picked up a trim bowl last year, when Amazon was selling them for $45. Used it once for some dry buds, and it removes more bud material than hand trimming. Seems to work best with medium sized dense buds. If you you remove all the fan leaves, and the larger sugar leaves first. The shake.in the bottom of the bowl makes good joints. After letting it cure for a few weeks, so that it loses the green taste.

I threw it in the freezer, gonna make some bubble! I saw some folks talking about a thing called cannatrol. I was like let me Google it. Now I want it!:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Look up using dry ice for bubble hash. One screen, sift onto a flat surface and smoke it. It’s as effective (or more so) than using water and is instantly ready to smoke. You only need a pound or two of dry ice to do a LOT of flower.

Awesome. I haven’t tried that method. I bought a bubble magic last year. It works great, but the dry cure process not so much. I’ll look this up on you tube.

I’m a fan.

About a lb of some cured Durban poison bud and a couple hours with a 220 bag.

I like bowl trimmers. Used carefully they produce a nice firm bud when dried. The key is to not overload them, and turn the handle real slow.
Here’s some wet trimmed buds from my last grow.

Watched a couple of videos and that looks way easier, although I do like my bubble hash. I gotta give this a try.

Can I use fresh frozen?

Two keys to wet trimming in a trimming bowl.

  1. Don’t overload the bowl. Don’t think you can toss a half ounce on the grate and just spin the handle. It won’t work. The buds will only get piled up on each other, clog up the silicone fingers and get crushed.

Only place 12-15 buds at a time, and turn the handle slowly.

  1. Turn the handle slowly. S-L-O-W! I count 7 seconds per turn.
Number of turns. I do 12-15 clockwise, 12-15 counter clockwise.

So, i did some research on these bowl trimmers? My question is, most of these all have the same design but vary in cost from $65 to several hundred. Is there that big of a signifant difference between brands to allocate such a price? Amazon has, what looks like a pretty decent one, an iPower 19" on sale right now. Anyone have one of these, if so, please share your opinions. And if not, please share your thoughts. :v:

All the same. Best ones have both blades and can adjust one level with the blade.

I wet trim everything by hand then use the bowl trimmer after drying and clipping all the bubs off the stems. If the weed is too dry you end up with less bud and more shake. I dont put a lot in at a time and only turn the handle between 5 and 10 turns and real slow. If I was only growing a lb or less a bud trimmer would not be worth it to me.

Should I treat it like live rosin for curing if it’s done fresh frozen?

Fraid that’s more than I can tell you my friend. I dry mine after shaking then freeze for storage. Maybe 3-4 days dry time depending.
I use mostly for top ups in a j or a lil baking.
Makes for some dandy muffins.
Don’t have a press yet but will when I get a few xtra $.
