I’ve read that when using autoflowering seeds you do not need to transplant your seedlings into different size containers that it is ok to plant right into the final pot. Other than the risk of transplant shock what are the pros and cons of planting your seedlings directly into the final pots?
Guidance to not transplant autos is probably based on the fact that you just don’t know when an auto will start flowering and it’s not a good idea to induce additional stress by transplanting a flowering plant and risk a hermie. Autos can flower as early as 4 weeks from the seedling stage, so if you do transplant you will want to do so within the 1st 4 weeks.
I don’t grow autos, but if I did I would transplant then at ~3.5 weeks just to be able to bury as much stem as possible to provide the plant with a more solid structure to grow on.
Sounds like I should wait another week or so to transplant. Thanks!
I’ve had an auto to start flowering at 21 days. They vary. A larger pot can be easily overwatered if not careful. I typically start mine in a solo cup to the third set of true leaves form then put in final pot
“first set of true leaves” show me what those are
My babies are only 8 days old, but I’ve been reading these forums like crazy and I keep reading that over and over “first set of true leaves” but when I google it, I get different results. HELP me help myself
1st set of leaves a plant gets from seed are called cotyledon. These are not true leaves they are what pushes the seed husk off the plant.
After those first two round leaves the next set up would be your “true” leaves
A little late on the draw @HollyHo but bob got you covered
I love the White widow autos. My first grow was good with them. Now every grow I drop one in there. Me personally I’d hold off on the transplant. You have very vigorous growth though so wont be long! What are they in? It’s a good idea to start in a clear solo that way its easier to monitor root growth. I’d say around 3weeks your 3rd set of leaves will be grown out good, that’s when I would pot up to something a little bigger. You’re node spacing is really tight! What’s your height in your grow space?
Thanks for these comments.
I have just lost three seedlings (all three germinated successfully) none of them survived transition from our seedling area to a 3 gallon fabric pot. Going to revert back to an interim step using solo cups.
