Okay so I heard mixed things about topping autos. Some people say it will do good and others say topping autos isn’t a good idea I ask because I have a few auto seeds germinating currently. If they take
Never know anymore. Good stable strains sure. Some of the super mixed stuff can be a turkey shoot. I have done it but photo for me if training. I started just straight up with my autos now. Others get great results. I quit risking them.
This is a gg4 auto…that’s topped
I had another blueberry auto…which I topped and she got stunted
Like strom said…it’s very strain specific I feel
I won’t top them unless they have super good and fast growth in the early 2-3 weeks
Appreciate the feedback fellas definitely will research the strains before I try it
This is my 4th auto
I would definitely recommend just let you girl
Topping for auto too risky is what I feel
Happy growing!
I top all my autos Growmie, often times new growers contribute stunted growth on autos to topping or another HST technique and inevitably this could happen but most stunted autos come from improper environmental conditions, lighting, watering / feeding habits. Autos need a great start and through veg to have substantial growth come flowering time. With that said there’s always the possibility of poor genetics
I top mine by day 16
As soon as the 4th node has enough growth I top back above #4…usually around week 3
I have read posts where a guy will swear you should never top an auto then you check his grow journal and he has 80 watts of burple lights in a cabinet with an auto in a cut down gallon milk jug and a bag of miracle grow in the pictures.
I’d say you gotta weigh the risk reward of it. Too many autos flower wayyyy too early for most of us without any additional stressors. I have topped but lately I’ve just been pulling my top over in a supercrop fashion to get a potentially higher yield without a hst stressor to possibly induce an early flower. These girls can have a hair trigger lol.
Hey now that I’m reading this I’m wondering if the reason I’m seeing pistols on the third week on two of my autos is because I filmed them? But I didn’t notice it’s slowing the growth down, but pistols are starting to show, did my fimming make that happen?
White Widow Autoflower via ILGM: Day 12. Her name is Lucy. She is only 12 days old and has small signs of sex .
Right on time apparently. Still need one more node to start training! Man thes are very fast!!!
I’ve followed the same advice ie: BB throughout, TB flower. Auto flowers seem to be better off left with alone nite free until week 3. My homemade soil has 20% increments of perlite, vermiculite, coco noir, peat moss, 10% worm castings, and 10% Bone Meal. So, N from WC and Cal Mag over time for flowers from slow dissolving bone meal.
My first ever grow , Day 12 from sprout. Waiting for the next node to "fim " and start LST.
First time using fabric pot. 1 Gal, 2’x2’x1’ cupboard! Running LED and staying true to a DLI chart for the first time… Get the Photone app for IPjone or Android to see how it compares with your "guessing "…
attached is the chart for Autoflowers light intensity.
And, learned that MMols of 300-500 are ok
Will follow post about my White Widow Auto flower from ILGM.
Learning curve is short for getting to sprout … then the transplant sooner seems to be best option…
Thank you and hope the light recommendation for anyone burning plants will help.

I second @Storm With stable strains like White Widow i believe one should top. It’s the Indicas i wouldn’t or any new Auto. Big bushy strains do great when topped.
I’m dyinn
She looks nice n healthy. I got a few auto white widow seeds from royal queen I’ve been waiting to sprout
I fimmed one of my White widows and topped one. Ok actually I fimmed both but f∆€k I missed on one and it was a top.
Topped plant is about 30% smaller and the hormone response of the successful one was amazing and as a new grower I was not prepared for the stretch on that plant.
Topping worked and the plant was more manageable. I do not have enough room if both would have zoomed like that bigger one
You familiar with supercropping yet? It can handle the upwardly mobile stretchers.
This might be an unpopular comment but in my own grow I think supercropping is a failure to properly manage training. I did have to do this to 2 stems and one came out fine and one turned into a mess. I know how it happend ( main stems with direct feed go faster farther and should have been on edge of light not in middle) and how to prevent the need. ( experiance with poor training is the best teacher ).

No I don’t know anything about super cropping yet
YouTube has plenty of tutorials. Hardest part is softening the bend area you choose on the stalk. It’ll split badly if you just manhandle a 90 degree bend. Watch a few vids on ways to work the area beforehand Minimize the potential damage.
