Im planning on getting a DWC setup soon. Im getting educated on the PH deal. And i need advise for a simple to use and a high quality Hydro nutrients specifically for Cannabis also hopefully not to expensive. Only using a 2x2 tent.
I think Jacks 321 is probably the best fit for those things.
You can buy kits from ebay. The sellers buy in large quantities and break down into smaller quantities. By the gallon it may be the least expensive product out there and it does a stellar job with cannabis.
This one in the pic works out to 8 cents per gallon.
What is Epson salts for? Guess i have allot of reading to do.
Epsom once dissolved breaks down into magnesium and a little sulfur.
Some growers adjust the formula a bit and leave it out. Works either way.
Here is a thread with a grower using Jacks in hydro. You can read the entire thread but I linked it at a nice photo of the results.
Im thinking DWC hydro is the last step i need to get those despensary tight, hard, furry nuggets.
The two things that are absolutely required for that to happen are…
1 - Genetics that are capable of growing a tight bud structure. Autos are less likely to make dense buds.
2 - Good quality and proper lighting.
Without these two things growing a dense bud will probably not happen.
Personally I don’t see that quality as anything more than another variation of the plant. They all look, smell, and feel different when smoked. I have had great effects from loose buds and disappointing effects from rock hard buds. Commercial growers choose a plant that genetically will produce a tight bud because public opinion says they are best and people believe it. People also believe white cars are more valuable. As far as buds go there are lots of people here who are turned off by dispensary weed and grow much better product at home.
I agree. I just want the highest quality possible. Buzz is the final test always.
Kinda off topic but ,
I think a big issue and why dispensary weed is sometimes subpar it just the production cost.
As the plant reaches the end of the grow cycle the manager is watching his bottom line. Each day that passes he has got utilities, payroll and other cumulative spending adding to the cost of the production run. These can be significant when each day passes and you only get a sellable product a few times a year. So I think they harvest as soon as they can and don’t care if the quality suffers. They just balance lost customers into the formula.
Anyway, like I said, this is off topic.
There are lots of hydro growers who have posted threads. Just use the search feature and look up Hydro Jacks 321,

Yep, Despensarie weed varies so much in quality in so many different ways. Plus it cost to damn much $$$$
I just harvested my first hydroponic grow and it worked awesome, healthy large plants. Some plants produced airy buds some dense buds all from the same strain. I used green planet nutes and it was costly. Gallon jugs were $60 to $130 depending on what it was. I love the information on jacks hydro. Thanks so much for that. I’ve seen on this forum that jacks is brought up a lot. So no more paying for 3/4 gallon of water and 1/4 of nutes from me.
hello @oldbud1 Jacks is a good choice that many use…I like and use the General Hydroponics Flora series with a couple other things…I will share my current feeding schedule with you for you to leverage from if needed…
what style of DWC are you thinking of running?
Hydroponics is starting to look like way to much of a hassle. I have time to fool with things. But, im no chemist. I just want keep it simple.
Mars-hydro DWC setup
hydro does require a bit more attention to things but it delivers a great reward…and after your first run things get real simple as you learn what matters and what doesn’t…I grow a simple setup with no external reservoir or water chiller…
Is it just mixing a new nutrient solution/mix every 2 weeks ? I can handle that. Maybe FoxFarms hydro nutrients, a little Cal-mag, PH Down, a little fish emulation, bottled water??
there are many growers that don’t change out their reservoirs except between veg and flower…they just add nutrients to keep a certain level…I like to change out more often to reset the nutrient intake for them…just my way…
@peachfuzz, any advice for a potential hydro grower?
Hey, Retired OldGuy, can you possibly mentor me? When im ready to turn up my hydroponics setup. Im in the middle of a new grow right now. I have a Red and UV light arriving this week. Im sure both are going to make a difference in the quality of my buds.
I am here to help you grow how you want to grow…
Before you go down this rabbit hole you might want to add this to your equation:
DWC requires a lot of care and attention for a few reasons: Buckets during flower require filling daily to maintain the proper distance to the net pot. (my plants will consume over a gallon a day per plant) Also without a chiller your nutrient solution temperature will almost always be too high, causing issues with root rot.
Going with RDWC instead allows you to run a large reservoir (makes nutrient solution more stable in a larger volume) and can run rez outside the grow space. You may or may not need a chiller then, depending on the environment. (In my case I have a cold basement which keeps rez temps reasonable)
With a large standing reservoir you can walk away from your grow for extended periods of time. Not so with DWC. There are some things that can help in DWC like using a large tote instead of a bucket to increase nutrient volume but still does not address temps.
You might want to look into using Autopots: a gravity feed tray with rez. I’ve been doing my grows with Autopots for a couple of years and like them, as do many others here. It’s probably the easiest grow system I’ve seen.
