Tip burn after new light install

I opened my tent for the first time since installing my new h LG Diablo 200. It was hot as hell and mildly humid even though I haven’t watered in about 3 days. My concern is why this is happening because I haven’t fed yet. I just got BFF Bush doctor calmag in today as well as the pH perfect micro bloom and grow. I was going to feed for the first time but maybe I should wait? I think the issue was that the light was too close. I had it about 12 in above the tallest leaves. I just raised it to about 15 in. Also all the new leaves coming out are looking really wrinkly like they’re dehydrated.

That’s not light burn ( I’d put that light back) it looks more like nutrient burn or possibly the start of cal mag deficiency, I’m leaning towards the ladder, new light means more par which means your plant is working harder and needs more nutrients

Ok, I just fed for the first time. She’s a photo GG4 that I had to cut down due to legginess and has been in FF Happy frog for about 3 weeks with no feeds. Hopefully starting feeding helps. Thank you!

Looks like nitrogen burn to me too. What soil are you using?

I agree with @GreenSnek its more nute burn and u do have a calcium def aswell but ur plants look good

I’ll add for future reference that I have 3 of those lights and they come from the factory at the maximum setting and the dial is on the backside of the driver. I have 1 in a veg tent at around 42” just to get a DLI of 35. Their super intense little lights :love_you_gesture:

Using FF Happy frog. I took those pics before any feeding whatsoever. I actually think those spots are probably from the Cal mag deficiency you guys mentioned so I went back and fed some Bush Dr Cal mag after y’all said it was deficient. I also had to do some foliar spraying for spider mite control the day I switched out those lights. So I’m thinking maybe a little leaf burn too…? I raised the lights about 4 in. And I’m waiting for my Infinity fan and filter system to come in on Friday because even in a 4x5 ft with one light and one plant it’s so damn hot every time I unzip it that last night I left it partially unzipped to vent it. It had to be 85° in there and I’m not trying to help these little spider mite bastards out.

This is a fairly important issue to address. I hope you get it installed soon as they need all that hot air out of there. As @OGIncognito said, turn down the intensity of the light. I got the photone app on my iphone and keep it around 600 umols in veg, 800 in flower. You actually don’t need to blast them with light and it can be counterproductive.

Did you spray at lights off or when lights were on? Always do foliar spraying at lights off and allow to dry when dark. This can cause burn on the leaves if done when lights on.

Looking at ur leaf photo close up shows what looks like little green aphids eating away close to the tip. Being that ur still in veg i would pull the plants out spray them down well top side & under the leaves. Than clean n spray down the tent n fans. Also which is equally as important get ur ventilation going better. Should try and exhaust more air than intake. This will dramatically help with temp n humidity. Hope this helps out!

The white spotting is a tale tale sign of bugs.

The burning is genuinely my fault. I was so worried about getting the mites under control that I just kind of went to town pretty much in the middle of my lights on. I adjusted my light schedule to wear the lights are off from noon to 6:00 p.m. so I can spray them when I’m actually awake and allow them to dry out in the dark. I looked this morning and I don’t see any where I can dial down the intensity on the Diablo 200…? I’m sure I can call HLG and ask. I left the top half of the tent unzipped to vent. And after googling some pictures it does seem like the leaves have some heat stress. Our temps over the next few days are going to be in the twenties and my closet is on an outside wall so that should definitely cool it down in there some as well. I’m on my way to get a power strip so I can plug in another fan too.

Does that phone app connect to your lighting system somehow? What do you use it for or does it just measure the intensity of the light when you put your phone in there? I love to nerd out on that stuff.

I personally don’t own a diablo, but HLG site says dimmable, give them a call. Very important to not blast them.

Nope, it simply measure the light intensity going to the plants using the phone’s camera. On iphone, you’ll need to place a plain old piece of white printer paper over the camera to diffuse the light coming in. Stick to around 600 umols in veg.

And as @Mestizo stated, looks like you have visitors still. What spray are you using? I use Neem oil in veg and Captain Jack’s deadbug in flower, when needed. Also make sure you’re thoroughly cleaning your tents with peroxide/water mix in between grows.

I would try raising the light to a common height 24" and the girls will be loving u.

My 1st tip would be to get a light dimmer frm Amazon, they run about $20 or so.

Also i always start my lights dimmed down and further away to see the plants reaction. Especially witb new unknown lights…

My initial height is always 36" and I adjust it as the get bigger and stronger. The playing room is way better this way because u can tweak everything to exactly what the plant likes.

@Mestizo @Highwayman420 thank you dearly! I have been reading for a week now with Jack’s orchard spray while I waited for the dead bug which was delivered this morning. I’ll take her out into the garage (it’s 28F today) to spray J’s DB and I’ll clean down my tent while she dries. Also going to add a second fan and keep open some of the little screened vent windows to keep the temp down until the infinity system comes on friday. I’m really hoping the ice were supposed to get doesn’t delay the Amazon guy. This is my first ever grow and I’m really hoping it gets less stressful the more I do lol. I’m also getting two baby jet fuels next week so I’m assuming I should keep those elsewhere until I see no signs of bugs. Got to figure out how to do that without having another tent. Can someone please reassure me that this gets a little bit easier as I go along.

The dimmer in the 200 Diablo is on the back of the driver. Remove the small black rubber plug, the dimming screw is under that :love_you_gesture:

It will, my first couple of grows I spent dialing in everything. I can’t say enough about Jack’s 321 nutrient line, I switched from Canna. No nute burn, steady ppm numbers, just no issues really. Also no flushing as some nutrient line require.

The absolute biggest factor I made that has allowed me to grow bigger yields is going to coco. Yes you have to water daily when they get bigger, but it’s a neutral medium so you can add Jack’s from day one seedling with no problems. Also overwatering is not an issue like it is in soil. Something to consider. I keep Canna coco bricks on hand and re-hydrate as needed.
That’s the hardest part in all this is getting everything dialed in. The nutrients, the soil, the lights, temperature, humidity. Once you get all your gear set up and adjusted, the plants will take off.

Absolutely and I’d still treat them with Capt Jacks DB.

A few days on a window sill with natural light, unless it’s really cold out, would be no problem. Just go lighter on watering and watch to temp related issues. You could also put the lights you have in a closet, keep them in there until your tent is pest free. But you for sure need to isolate the infested plants.

What do you know, :joy::joy: I didn’t even see that just knew that had to be the dimmer. You’ll love this light. It’s the smallest of the HLGs I have and the most intense :love_you_gesture:
