I’ve worked since before I could legally do so, except a few months right after I got out of the USAF. I’m going around our apartment fixing things, helping neighbors with their cars, on top of my garden, laundry/chores around the house, and I still get bored lol

I read to post 19, then decided to chime in. I am excited about the experiment, just because it’s an experiment and those are always fun. However, most of me is screaming, no, don’t waste your buds.

Not sure about washing anything with resin glands in hot or warm water. That right there is a major red flag to me.

The drying in the fridge gave me pause, as well, because fridges are so humid and cold. What ruins drying weed? Cold temps and high humidity can greatly increase your risk of mold. Unless your fridge has a seperate controller for humidity, you absolutely will not be able to control it, because fridges don’t vent their moisture and it will just stay inside the unit.

Now, I’ll finish reading after post 19 to see if the experiment was successful.

I highly recommend NFTG Persephone’s Palate. Highly recommend it! Great terpene booster (lab results have shown up to a 25% increase) and microbe food. One ingredient: calcium lignosulfonate.

After following this thread I decided to monitor my fridge with a hygrometer and got the temps to 41 in fridge adjusting the freezer and fridge dials and the humidity is actually on the low low side at 26%
Checked my other fridge to with similar readings.
I had always thought they would be higher in humidity too.

They might not start out high in humidity, but once you put in things with high humidity, such as weed, fruits, veggies, etc, that humidity gets held in the fridge.

Relative humidity works the same in your fridge as it does in your grow area, except fridges tend to be air tight and have no fans circulating air inside.

Depends on if you want to use it start to finish or only in bloom. I use it start to finish. So, on 8 plants times 2 grows, I go through 1 quart a season, at 1 tbsp per gallon of water once a week. It will drop your pH down very low, so be ready to adjust for that.

I can tell you that the humidity spiked the first few days (scared me a bit, but others had been down the road ahead of me) then lowered back to the mid 40s. I suspect some (all?) of the moisture was frozen in the ice box - I will have to defrost it before next harvest. If I had a frost-free fridge (as the original post recommends), the humidity would be lowered by the auto-defrost mechanism (that moisture has to go somewhere)

Still just working on a date for the grand experiment. Like herding cats. You’d think i could gather grown adults to smoke some free weed in a recreationally legal state. :roll_eyes:

At any rate, when I harvested, not only did I set up the Strawberry Cough experiment, I also threw some buds from each of my plants into separate paper bags and tossed them in the fridge as well.

Because the experiment will be a blind study - no one will know which sample is which until the end - I have sampled buds from the fridge from time to time.

This setup has been the worst case scenario for them - they are still in the fridge in paper bags 3 weeks later (I ran out of jars due to regular harvest and the big experiment taking up 8 jars and I really don’t wanna buy more, especially since I may be experimenting with curing in turkey roasting bags in the near future (:man_shrugging:) The humidity in the fridge is in the mid 40s and those buds are really over-dry.

However. HOWEVER. Those over dry buds in the fridge are superior in smell, taste and effect to the ones dried on the rack and jarred and burped according to traditional standards. The jarred buds do smoke less harsh - but the fridge nugs have never seen the inside of a jar, and I suspect that will mellow them immensely.

The blind study will confirm whether or not this perception is the result of bias. But for now… funk on!

So are resin glands water-soluble or not? Isn’t this why washing a pipe or a bowl, even in the hottest of water is ineffective, at best? I haven’t smoked any of the washed bud yet, but the science seems to support that water washing (at any temp), shouldn’t have a measurable effect on potency.

I was more concerned about the hydrogen peroxide, to be honest.

As you suggest, the resin glands (trichomes) are not water soluble. The warm or hot water will soften them and the heat may not be ideal but they are not as delicate in the warmer state. Cold water hardens them making them susceptible to breaking off (as in when we dry rub keif). The hydrogen peroxide is harmless to the buds (certainly in the concentrations we are talking about).

I rinse my buds in hydrogen peroxide water which is at room temperature so as to hopefully not harm the trichomes with heat or cold.
