Hello again grow-friends. Update on the late-stage flower ripening phase.
Things are going well I think. As expected, the girls are slowing their drinking habits and so I’ve been scouring the internet for how to decide when to chop and how to prepare for that and so on. I could use some help from you on this. My two plants are from the same set of seeds, but one appears to be about 2 weeks further along in ripening. Here’s the full tent view from this morning:

The plant in the rear of the tent (flowers circled in red here) are I think really close to :axe: :carpentry_saw:. Most of the white hairs have darkened and receded, although there looks like new little budlets trying to pop out now in some last-ditch bulking up effort (?) Here’s a close up of one of the rear plant buds along with triche close up:

The other plant at the front of the tent is not quite as far along. I think maybe 10-14 days behind?

Now before you start saying “another week” :joy: , since this is my first grow, I feel lucky already that things look as good as they do. My priority at this point is to maximize quality over yield and also I don’t mind waiting until those conditions are met (hell I’ve waited this long, whats another 2 months for ripening, drying, curing, and …). What is your advice at this point? Can I spoil the quality by somehow missing the optimal ripeness zone? Other than a denser ratio of cloudy triches, what should I be looking for? Thanks for watching, I appreciate all you growmies like you don’t know…

The “theory” is:

All cloudy trichomes with not more than 20 % amber trichomes = peak THC potency and more of a racy, head high.
More than 20 % amber trichomes = more of a body high.

Thanks @kaptain3d !!
I was just watching this great video about late flowering stage:

and at 4:50 he gave a tip about re-veg symptoms, which my plants in the rear of my tent are showing! Should I chop those now?

From the trichomes picture you posted, I would wait a few days… but she’s very close for my taste…

They will have 2-3 swells

Peak ripeness depends on your taste. You won’t spoil anything. I’d encourage doing partial harvests a week apart to decide what you prefer.

I harvest when the first couple ambers hit the buds. Cloudy peak potency & Amber is when they start to degrade into other Cannabinoids. Plenty of amber is on the sugar leaves already. If you want sedated then go for more amber.

Don’t forget that they will continue to ripen, even after harvest. A 20% amber will be 30-35 once done. I grow a couple sleepy meds, but I hate smoking, and falling asleep during daylight. I feel like I wasted a high.

Thanks @Budbrother and @kaptain3d - just what I need, 'preciate you both!

Good to know! When I say that I want to maximize quality, it’s really that I want the best terps, aromas, smoothness, etc. I think I’m gonna be more of a head-high type vs couch lock person, so I love the idea of partial harvests. Problem is, I need to use the tent to dry and not smell up the house. So I need to figure out how to make that happen…

Thanks for watching!! :+1:

OK, I found another harvest, dry, cure video from the famous Mr. Canuck (no, not our Lt Dan), although he is a famous Canuck for sure. This has some very good content, and I love his focus on terps, or in his words “Protect the terps, because all terps matter” :heart_eyes_cat:

Hi again from from the Alien Shore. Another first, it was :axe: time! After staring at microscopic images until I was cross-eyed, I decided to take the girls to the great afterlife - drying!

And another first…wet trimming. Weeee! I am now part of the larf hunter fraternity!
I wanted to once again tell everyone here how much I appreciate all of you who share your knowledge and experiences, it’s been hugely helpful to have the advantage of learning from the great people on this forum when doing all of this stuff for the first time.

Anyway, while we await drying and curing, here’s the next stop on the Alien Express:

Thanks for watching!!

Thanks guys!

Got the 15g pots re-amended, so they are cooking up some nice revitalizing organics for round #2. If you’re curious, I’m still using BAS3.0 as my main organic soil, the re-amendment was about 4 cups of worm castings, 2 cups of BAS craft blend, and a nice sprinkling of kashi on top. Then I just added fresh straw, and watered that in with about a gallon of fresh RO water.

You can see the little nursery here - all three of the Grimm Truffles popped after 48hrs, and they’re getting the solo cup for their first couple of weeks under 18/6 hrs of light from the EVO6 at power level of 1. I plan to only grow 2 plants, but if the third seedling looks good, I may do a @kaptain3d “twist-tie” version with intertwining two in one pot. Need to go re-read some of your thread about how to do that

Carefully! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Make sure to water your plants 30 minutes to an hour before doing it. It help the stem to be more “pliable”. Keep some aloes or honey handy in case of a break and don’t forget some kind of tape and stakes.

Howdy y’all, hope your growin is goin, well.

Here in the Alien tent, the Grimm Truffles are at day-18, and the tent got a nice washin’ down. I have watered the girls when they cry at night, and I water the pots when they feel a bit damp, not quite drying out. That Kashi will stink up your whole house when it starts to really catalyze some wonderful organic growth in the top layer of the soil. I love the results, but not the smell !

The truffle girls are a White Truffles x C99 tester strain from Brothers Grimm. I read about several growers here being very pleased with some of the BG truffle runs, so I figured let’s have a go with it for run #2. So far, the two I selected are growing nicely and they are rooting fast in their solo cups. The third seed got left in the germination water too long, so she’s the runt… not puttin’ her in the corner just yet, keepin’ an eye on that one.

Thanks for watching.

Howdy everyone. Hope those in the path of hurricane Helene are doing ok. If you have some extra money or time, pitch in and help those who were ravaged by that terrible storm. American Red Cross or Salvation Army are two ways, among others.

Last week, I decided to skip the interim transplant (last time I used 1g pots for a few weeks between solo cups and 15g pots), and just went straight to the big pots.

I think they’re are a little mad at me for being so close to the straw, but I think they’ll get over it. They certainly seem to like the EVO6 light though. We’ll see how things go the next couple of weeks of veg. Once they get a bit of height on them, they’ll get the first round of LST.

Until next time…

Happy Friday everyone.

It’s day-31 for the new truffle-babies, who are just vegging out. Looks like they’re enjoying the 15g pots so they’re happy / I’m happy.

I do have a question for the pros. This is about grow #1, which is curing. I went to great pains to do the drying and curing like you all have advised. I got my little dry room down to ~62F and 60%RH. The smaller buds dried to about ~12% moisture in 8 days. The bigger ones took longer about 12 days. I did the final trim on them and stuck them into grove bags along with RH monitors. The little ones have been in bags for about 3 weeks, and the bigger ones for about 2 weeks now. I opened the bags up to check on them and they still smell a bit like the hay barn. The meters are all reading about 62-63% inside the bags. What should I do at this point? Just continue to let them cure? Air them out a bit? Did I dry them too quickly?

Leave the bag open for an hour or two

Happy Tuesday y’all… I was out for a few days, went to visit an old friend out the country.
Thanks for the reply, @Budbrother, I did just that, and am now doing little cycles of “burping” to get the humidity down a little and blow off some of that chloro (which is what I presume is giving off that mild hay odor).

Wow. Thanks everyone. That first year really has flown by - I love my new community here. So many great growmies here, that are so kind and generous with their advice and friendship.
