Tent zipper failure. Any solutions?

Well, the nylon zipper finally failed on my old tent. The teeth no longer engage. Is there a quick fix, bandaid, or jury rigged remedy?

I’ve grown a lot of weed in this tent, and can’t see buying a new one just for a zipper.

What if when the flap is closed you hung a dark sheet or tarp over the entrance to block light? Like a secondary flap?

You probably make something about out of anything as @Fieldofdreams saying

They actually sell replacement zippers. Either sew on or some solid adhesive if you want to replace.

If you need it to be relatively light-proof, use wide Velcro strips, one on each side of the door with a bit of overlap. Glue it or even staple it if need be.

Man velcro has come a long way. Those industrial strips are amazing. The adhesives if allowed to cure before use will never seperate.
Great call.

There are “Zipper Repair Kits” available off Amazon..

Work great after my Gorilla Tent zipper failed.

Hope this link will work.. If not just search “Zipper Repair”.

Just make sure you get the right sized zipper repair kit.. :>

Going forward, if you lube your zipper like I do, started doing it when I had a lightbulb moment after lubing my chain on the Duke, it should always remain zippery.

Beeswax or petroleum jelly work good and wont eat the plastic.

I wasn’t going to be that guy
But yes, lubing your zips way prolongs the life.
I personally make a product for that from my beehives :green_heart::sign_of_the_horns:t2:

I do lubricate it. I used a bar of soap, gently running it into all the teeth. The tent is about 15 years old, and I’ll bet this zipper has been opened and I’m closed a thousand times.
