Tent set up help for 1st time

Hi everyone:
So I am into a month of my outdoor auto grow and all seven plants are kicking it! Just using common sense gardening rules. No over doing it/no stressing ha. One thing I must say is that this is fun.
1st time grower and want to continue this fall and am looking at tents/indoor grow- both veggies and a couple of “girls”
Was thinking of a 4 by 4 tent, one source for all the parts pieces (fan , light, filter, hydro, timer, etc, etc) looking at the AC Infinity set up but not sure about the light with the all in one kit.
I travel a lot and needs to leave the grow on their own for a week± and would like to see what’s going on.

Thoughts on AC? Should I build with separate (
Components ? As stated, I’m a beginner but concerned with light output.

Be careful with kits, as they often contain poorly performing components (particularly lighting.) Look for a light built with Samsung LM301 diodes and you will have a quality product. The AC Infinity kits do come with decent lighting, but the rest of the kit sellers leave a lot to be desired.

Suggesting looking at kits so that you understand the components you need and then buying quality components each independently.

Brands that can be trusted include AC Infinity, Gorilla Tents, Apera, BLuelab, HLG lighting and the newer models of Mars Hydro and Spider Farmer. AC Infinity is also making decent lights now too.

AC isn’t usually needed unless you can’t otherwise control the temps. It’s best to manage heat/humidity with increased airflow if you can. Both portable AC units and dehumidifiers exhaust a lot of heat, which can be a PITA to deal with unless you are good at ducting.

Light is measured in PPFD (photosynthetic photon flux density.) There’s a phone app out there called Photone that you can use to measure PPFD.

In general, PPFD should be:

Seedlings 300 PPFD
Veg stage: 600 PPFD
flowering 800 to 1000 PPFD

When planning an indoor “garden”, there’s a lot of differences to consider, but there’s also some similarities as well; namely space. The biggest downside in my mind, to the 4x4, 5x5 type style, is workroom. If you’ll be doing veggies and different crops, you’ll most likely end up moving plants around as they grow, fruit, etc., and will want ample access to the back corners of the tent for pruning, harvesting, watering, etc., which you won’t be able to reach from the front door. That’s why tents in that category have those handy half-doors on the sides near the back. My advice, would be to just have a little mental exercise working in a 4x4 box, and do some garden planning, like you might do in the wintertime while you await spring thaw. I’ve even grown quite a few cucumbers on a trellis up the back wall in my old 5x5.

If you’ve got room to have walkaround space outside the front and both sides of the tent, then it’s more about build quality and other amenities, like openings for ducting and wires, hoses, etc. Planning for multi-crop gardening will be a different approach than running a single cannabis crop, or even multiple stages of the same crop.

The light is pretty much considered the focal point that the whole garden system is built on, but the environment a tent provides is right up there as well. Best to match them up together in the beginning, then add in all the environmental controls to fit with it.

Not much of an answer, I know, but it’s a tricky question when planning a hobby like this. It’s awesome fun, but can be a bit frustrating if it becomes awkward and clumsy to work in.

A big light, that’s fully capable of flowering the entire tent footprint you decide on with numbers @MidwestGuy was using, that also has a dimming feature is where I’d be shopping. Veggies don’t take near the light, so you might find you only need the full blast of lighting in some circumstances, while finding it harmful in others.

Cannabis needs 2x to 3x the light that most other plants need. The only plants that exist that need as much light as cannabis are palm trees, olive trees, and some species of cacti.

I had this concern too so I didn’t get a kit. I went with an HLG light with a dongle that connects it to the AC Infinity Pro 69 controller. Everything else is ACI (fans and humidifier) and are hooked in too. It all works really well. In fact, I’m adding the controller and humidifier to my other tent right now (should come tomorrow  ). If you leave for a week with someone else providing care, you can still see what’s happening in the tent through the app for the controller. To me, that controller sets ACI apart.

@MidwestGuy and @Bubbala provide sage counsel above as always. :+1:

Ok, so being new I wanted it simple so I don’t screw it up.
Just purchased the AC Infinity 5 x 5 pro tent set up.
Resigned to the fact that veggies or cannabis each grow-not combined. Only plan on a couple of plants per grow and want some minimal room to get around them.
Was going to wait until fall to get the tent but am in the N.E. And the sun hasn’t been out in a week, cloudy, muggy, and near 100% humidity. Have 4 WW autos outside and they seem to be ok but haven’t had pure sunshine in a week.
PH in soil is a little low , 4.8-5 so I watered them with a baking soda/water mix (1 tea, per gal.). No nutes yet as they are in week 4 of planting in FF Ocean forest.
Want to start LST but just a stalk with several nodes/branches but branches aren’t worth bending over. May the plants are going through the stretch, or reach?
Plants are very green and very heathy.

Is backing soda ok to use?
Should I try and bend the main stalk over.

Trying to keep it simple
