Stunted Growth = Less Product or Total Waste?

Hey there,
this is my first post in this forum (been reading quite a lot here, though) and my second grow in total.

My first grow was great and unproblematic (but I got very inpatient at the end and killed the plants too early, with yet too few trichotomes).

This grow.. has been different. I have all kinds of issues, not only with my main plant but also 2 smaller ones, so:

If I stunted my autoflower, how badly did I screwemphasized text up? Will it still “grow up” but give me fewer fruits or is it a total waste of time, energy and thus money?

My main lady rn is Auto Strawberry Gum (Advanced Seeds). According to Grow with Jane, we are now at day 38 since planting the seed. (+/- a few days, I have ADHD and sometimes don’t protocol correctly).

I am a-OK with her bushiness/horizontal growth, but she is very, very tiny, which stresses me out so shortly before flower phase. Everytime I water her, she gets droopy af. I watered about 7 hours ago and she still is moody from it.

If you take a look at her, what can I expect? Will she still stretch a bit? Or will it be a tiny output?

I plan to feed her every 2-3 days now, at least 1,5L with some run-off, with increased CalMag dosages. Can she recover?

Some key facts:

  • Day 38 (total cycle)
  • Day 19 (Week 3) (veg-phase)
  • 15 L fabric pot
  • 60x60x180cm grow tent + smart controller for main fan
  • 50/50 pre-fed soil and coco coir
  • 100W Samsung LM281b LED, running 24/7 (veg mode, switched to flower mode with extra red spectrum TODAY)
  • lights are ~40-45cm above the canopy
  • topped once, around day 16-19 (?)
  • de-foliated slightly due to yellowing fan leaves
  • the net for SOG was installed today (probably too late)

Main mistakes (I think):

  • watered too seldomly (my first grow was in 100% soil, I didn’t expect coco coir to dry out so fast) - only once a week and with 500ml of tap water
  • didn’t feed soon enough - I started feeding (half dosages) of all-around Cannabis nutes on day 4 of veg
  • first LST was applied during seedling stage (bend once and bind it down), then every 7-14 days (in total about 3 times)
  • the controller for my fan sucks (thanks Vevor) and disconnects all the time (or wahtever tf its problem is) so I don’t have the rH and temp in check all the time.. which led to the plant eitehr sitting at 35-40% rH for too long (few hours at time) or above 70% rH (currently, I pretty much have to have my hudifier on 24/7 to keep the humidity in the 55-70% range)

The images are in chronological order, so from “few weeks ago” to “today”.

My opinion, grow them out because they’ll teach you.

You can’t plan your watering schedule. If you’re hand watering you need to start picking your pots up individually to feel how heavy or light they are. Water to run off when they’re really light, until then don’t water them. If you want a smooth grow you’ll need to check them daily because in flower they get real thirsty

I have ADD and until I learned what I was doing I hated autos. They do better with a hands off approach. After this run you may want to try photos because you can really have fun training them.

Interesting! I started with Autos bc I thought they would be easier to handle with my ADHD. But I have some Moby Dick photoperiod seeds here I got for free, will give it a go. I think you are right - now that growing cannabis is a focus of my add-mind, Autos might not be the ideal plant for me anymore.

Cheers

Also thanks for the watering tips!

Sure thing! I just feel photos are much more forgiving. For an auto to produce it seems like everything needs to go smooth from day 1.

Plus I like to try different training techniques which keeps me from getting board with the grow

Suggestion: Set lights to 18/6. Even autos can benefit from some sleepy time. Btw, your gal looks pretty typical for an auto that age. Vegetative growth (and early bud formation will probably accelerate soon, and by a lot. That’s mostly been my experience with autos anyway.

You will also have trouble with growth while under 100 watt lamp. Especially once in flower. I second growing photoperiod.

Please refrain from colorful language on this forum.

Like said previously 100 Watts is not enough light, you can download the photon app and lower the light to the correct height but the footprint will be less but still may serve you well. Second I think you stated you mixed soil and coco? If so from what I’ve read That’s not very proper, they both have different pH values. Also I see the plants look thirsty. All that being said I would keep going, you will learn like deadhead said and you will still be successful in my opinion with an acceptable yield
