Stuck seed hull turned to sawdust

Hey folks! Had a seed hull stick to sprout. Came out of ground and seed hull was completely around leaves. Cracked seed w some pliers very gently. Two days later, a pile of what looks like sawdust?!?! What could’ve done this. Can’t see evidence of bugs. Curious

Thats pretty crazy.

Not for one minute do I think the 2 things are related.
That was not in the seed.
Looks like ejecta from a wood boring critter bug.
And your seeds must be much larger than the ones I get. I could not crack a seed with a pair of pliers and I still tie flies with 28’s

28’s holy crap kudos to you, lucky if I could do around 12 any more.

O I cheat. I have a 8x6 tie magnifier and I have repurposed ( of all things ) a differential measuring kit into a hand helper to steady as I wrap.

I have fun on micro terrestrials in my pond catching minnows on 0weight.

I agree. Not related. Just never seen this. Can’t see any bugs anywhere. Had couple more stick and nothing like this happened. Hull had everything enclosed except stem.

Hehe one of my plants still has 1/2 a seed hull on a coly leaf. It’s like some sick trophy it will not drop. It was the last one with a hull on it that lived. One other died off eyeball on a stick.

Put a drop of water on it and keep it wet for a while, that usually hydrates the shell enough to fall off. Occasionally you have to remove it manually, which can damage it.:oncoming_fist:

After running a bunch of autos that were prone to this I found out that intervention past dampening the hull a few times a day was not working.

Nature and a little water worked better than touching it at least for me. Left alone it was very low. Try and pull on it had a pretty big fail rate ( for me )

I kinda regret checking this post now…

Gives me the heebie jeebies thinkin of some bug sheeting out that much sawdust just crawling around!
