These are bag seeds that I truly didn’t think would even germinate so when they did I clearly didn’t know what I was doing when I put into the cups. With that said these are small clear cups about half the size of a solo, but not enough soil and although they look good now I’m sure problems lie ahead without the proper space for roots? Ffhf soil. Should I add, transplant, I’m lost… TIA
*Tent and proper equipment will arrive Monday
I would transplant since it is in a clear cup. The roots won’t like being exposed to light. You could also top it off some to let it grow a bit more first to increase her chances of survival.
I always bury them up to their necks when I transplant. If you transplant now you could reach in there and compress the soil a bit around where the root would be. You probably only have a tap root at this point. You can flip that cup over and use it as a humidity dome after you’ve transplanted.
Perfect I will transplant and cross my fingers. I didn’t think about it still only being a tap root that makes perfect sense. Also I have a few in a burpee starter green house that are touching the top as of this morning. Would you suggest I pull them and put into bigger pot as well?
I would leave well enough alone if they aren’t presenting problems.
There doesn’t appear to be any drainage holes in the cup (bad) and the soil looks clumped and not level, the safest bet is level it off with a little more soil, melt or cut some holes in the cup, and place it in another cup that’s black or lined with black plastic between the cups.
If you choose to transplant now, you’ll need to gently erode the soil away or risk damage to the stem and roots.
First cut the cup away down to soil level.
Next place hand over it with stem between fingers closest to center of hand and tip over to catch.
Place in new cup with enough soil and space for what you have already.
I do have holes three in each cup but I see now that clear is not the best option so I’ll see what I can find that is darker. I’m scared to transplant but feel like I should but maybe just a top off like you and @MidwestGuy suggested would be best. I’m only on day 5 so still so delicate. I’m actually super impressed with the quick responses this is a great forum!
And fill up to neck, right before the true leaves?
Dont get to close but for sure you can bury a lot of the stretch.
Just be careful and dont rush. Depending on how tight the current soil is it may be easy or hard to do.
Thank you! I think it’s loose as mentioned the soil is not level and packed so i think it will be good as long as I’m super careful and slow
Nice. Please share pics when complete and dont forget the drainage holes in new cup.
Absolutely! Thank you again. This was really nice to have such quick response!
