Feminized Trainwreck for those who do not know what strain I am growing. I can see the plant beginning to establish a 5th node. Should I top now?
Just make sure she’s got enough height to leave a little bit of stalk above your cut so she can heal it up. Looks good
I am a fimm guy. Right there is where i tipically reach in and pinch them. Especially a photo I intend to put in a 20gallon to veg out big. Gives me 4 mains easily spread out. They get thick and i hit again later each 1 with a top or fimm depending on how she looks.
Unfortunately I am only working with such limited space. I think two colas I’ll be able to handle in this 2x2x4. I but wanted to make sure where I needed to cut before I attempt this. I counted 4 total nodes with the top working toward being a 5th.
I’m actually on the 4th node going into the 5th node so I think I need to wait until the top has established itself. So I cut before going into the 6th node I believe. So I’ll wait to top her.
Good thing about a photo is this stuff. If you top for 2…veg…see room for another top you can. A 2x4 can actually grow a big girl. I took mine down for now but used to run 3 5 gal pots straight up very successfully.
I run a 5 gal fabric pot in the current tent I have. So whether I top or not I should still get a pretty decent yield. Maybe I should wait for my next grow cycle to do any type of topping or FIM. Just so I can nail down the growing part first. But curiosity has me also lol
To be honest…that is the path i would go. Start…finish and then get more in depth. Save you a lot of worry.
I’ll take this advice. I at least want my first grow to be fully successful before playing around with methods like LST, topping or Fimming. I just need to make sure I gauge correctly when to flower.
Photo so expect decent stretch. Dimmable light helps headroom. I typically pound them a little hard to stop stretch in veg. Just me. They can get out of control easy . Runtz in flower needed 2 supercrops. She went right up. Not sure genetics on trainwreck. If indica heavy expect 50% up. Sativa heavy…man…they can go. That being said…going straight up no training flip with that in mind. Others have better insight. Just what happens to me.
Yeah I think Trainwreck is 60% sativa and 40% Indica? That’s the rough estimate I do know Trainwreck is sativa dominant though. But I see what you are saying because this plant has grown faster than I even anticipated it to. I was expecting it to take much longer. Well this little one has definitely sprung really really fast in a matter of 20 days. I’m assuming Cannabis is a fast growing plant, hence why they call it weed?
It is. You are doing it right with that growth. Judge how she is going now and flip when you start getting worried about height. Supercropping is easy and works well if goes nuts.
Super cropping is a new term to me. What does this entail?
Bending over the main by cracking the stem fibers and laying it down. Apex plant. Wants a main. Rest of the flowers will stretch to take over while top heals. Can add several inches to a straight up grow. A foot or more some plants.
This sounds scary to attempt on a plant, I saw a video of a guy doing this and I couldn’t believe it lol. I thought to myself “did he really just snap the whole stem” but this was a bill ward YouTube so I know he knows what he’s doing. But damn. I just wouldnt want to screw it up!
Pictures i just posted are a runtz supercropped 2 times. Would not stop stretching…lol
It looks great though and I see the advantages of super cropping now. What I may do is try and grow two plants next time around. If I mess one up, I still have another that I didn’t do anything to other than maybe top it. I bought the cannabis encyclopedia by Jorge Cervantes, I’ll definitely give it more of a read before I attempt to do anything I am unsure of. And of course have this great community to verify.
I would consider topping and continue LST with the tent height plus the light and your pot will leave you minimal height for the stretch
I had a feeling this pot was too big! I need to go a little smaller next grow cycle. It looks like if I need to top it won’t be long before the 5th node gets established. And the LST training something I still need to educate myself on more.
You need to consider the height of the tent. I know I could not grow anything in a 48" tall tent without pinning that plant as flat as a pancake. Trainwreck is described as tall so you also need to address its potential height.
Raise your light as high as it will go then measure the distance between the top of the pot and the light. From this subtract the clearance needed between the light and the top of the plant. This gives you how tall a plant you can grow. If the filter and exhaust fan are in the tent I think you will need to move it outside.
Here are a couple photos of a plant I topped earlier this year. Topping a plant is NOT a big deal or complicated. If you have a reasonably steady hand, decent eye sight and a scissors, it will take about 5 seconds. I have yet to FIM a plant successfully.
Having a bit of the cut stem above the top node is important.
You need to wait for their to be enough growth to get a clear clean cut. This plant was pruned and trained as a manifold.
In a 2x2x4 I would keep the set of growth tips immediately below the top node. This will give you 4 main colas. Remove anything below it. As soon as the branches are long enough to bend down and flatten, do it.
This is what I mean by bend and flatten. This is a manifold form.
