Second go with DWC

Trying my second go at DWC. Hopefully better then the first
Sorry I speak metric.
The seeds are from bank in Amsterdam (Can’t remember details) but they were feminise seeds.
It’s stared out in a 75mm rockwool cube after sprouting. This took off after a week or so and after the seedling started getting a few roots out the bottom cube, she was transferred to the 220mm netpot with washed clay balls. It’s 180mm deep.
Currently in 25 litre barrel (temporary setup until tent room is ready). With bubbler and spray system that mixes and sprays the pot every 1:45 for 15 minutes.
Also have a chiller attached keeping tank at 19.5 deg.
LED Light is running at 19.5 DLI (just realised that there are a row of leds not working and a pattern of others as well, will work for the moment).
PH is steady at 6.3 and EC was 1.2 before last tank change last night.
PH has been dropped to 6.1 and EC increase to 1.4 as per manufacturer guides for EC.
Using an Aussie made brand called Grow Research which I follow their growing and fed guide.
I had success in coco and some of the nutrients can be used for both.
Please excuse the insulation as temp setup just to keep the tank cool and the light out as the barrels opaque.
30th April.

4th May.

9th May.

Any concerns with how it looks at the moment?

Couple of questions and here starts the arguments.
DWC - what should I run PH at?
Recommendations for a new LED light for a 1.2x1x2x2m tent, but something not outrageously priced.

morning Mardy…look good to me…in my grows my ph runs as high as 7 during veg phase and down to 4 during last days of flower… I do a complete change out every 7 days with fresh nutes…I like to mix the nutes for a 6.0ph and after that I let the plant drive the ph…I know some may say you have to keep it in a certain window 5.5-6.5 but I have found that not to be true in the way I grow…a good light is going to cost you but you will get a better harvest with it and soon forget how much you had to pay for it…Most like the HLG lights…I run Marshydro and others SpiderFarmer and some others that are new to the market but show some good outputs…

I would say here down under the Mars Hydro Smart FC-E3000 is the best available here, it’s $415.99 Australian from the mars Australia site, it can be less when on sale, remember your light is the most expensive and important part of any grow.

Well my current light is dying a slow death:poop::exploding_head:
A line and a few other leds have turned off.

It’s will do for the mean time….

It has now been moved to the permanent home.

A few modifications for cooling, multiple air stones and a view indicator for fluid levels.

Last night when transplanted.
Wasn’t really keeping a close eye on the ph and ec in the barrel as it was a pain in the ass. But it was still ok but ph was bit on the high side.

But looks much happier this morning. :hugs::hugs:

morning Mardy…who makes your tote system…first time I have seen that model and is very similar to my setup except I have dropped the top feed as it really did nothing to help the grow…

It’s an Oxypot XL + 6.5l basket.

There’s a two different basket sizes, one has 2 small pots and then the one I decided to get which has the massive pot and for one plant.

As I said made a few modifications to make it a bit better for me.

I’m the same as you @Retiredoldguy, not sure if I should keep the spraying system going now that the roots have sprouted and are in the tank?

But then again it keeps stirring up the tank so I don’t think it will hurt, but anyone who knows more please through comments in.

Had a roll over this morning…
Fan leaves seem to turning vertically to the light.
The light is only running at 25.2 DLI

morning Mardy…what I found is by having 4 air stones in the tote, 2 at each end causes all the circulation needed…I use 2x2 inch air stones…I put my seeds directly into my system and the bubbles create a mist in the tote that keeps the net basket with rockwool and my seed just at the right moisture level and encourages the root to grow towards the mist…your leaves are what we call ‘praying’ and it means she is regulating the amount of light by making surface area less flat and it means you are right at the max level so watch closely and if the leaves start cupping then you have passed that light max but as long as you have some praying that is what you want…

Afternoon Growmies and @Retiredoldguy

My situation seems good, ph stable at 6.2 to 6.3 (drop it down below 6.1 and comes back to this and stays here at that levels so she wants this she wants :joy:), EC has dropped from 1.5 to 1.4 and water level has dropped about 5 to 10mm approximately.

Todays question’s for newbie.
How low should I let the reservoir drop (level below basket) before refilling?
What is the correct procedure in refilling? Level of nutrients should be added to top up? Is it the same levels of nutrients as what I put in when it was transferred?

Thanks for all your info so far.

But she looking happier.

What do you think of the fce4800, any issues as I see a few (same posts) with issues with the app and the lights just turning off.
I’ve been looking at the fc4800.

I have had no issues I don’t use any app just have it plugged into a timer. It runs cool inside the tent, having the driver outside.

morning Mardy…for my setup I start with 5 gallons in the tote/reservoir and I completely exchange every 7 days and I try to end the 7 days with 2.5 to 3 gallons left…the roots are well into the bottom of the tote so no need to worry about level to the basket…normally I just add no nutes water during the 7 days to get me to 2.5-3 gallons at the end of the week but if I have a plant that is eating more than normal I would add my nutrient mix for that week to it to get me to the end of the week…

Morning all and above,

Just was wondering if my roots look ok.
After my last death (roots), I just want to keep an eye (or someone with more experience) on them to make sure I catch any potential issues early.

I do have hydroshield after the last failed project.

Excuse the root porn so early :hugs:
