morning Mardy…I see some dark …could be the light…your roots look good except for those dark areas…roots should be white … it doesn’t hurt to add more hydroshield
Will do.
Thanks for that.
Very nice
Should I to do a rank change it’s the 4 day since it’s been in the new take, just wondering if I brought something over from the barrel?
Or just add the hydro shield with a few lites of ph’ed water only
Or ph’ed water + half strength a&b + the normal silica?
Or I have no idea
I would stay with your current feeding schedule…just add some hydroshield if you see some dark slime on your roots…it may have been the light shadow that made me think of rot…it never hurts to do a complete change out if in doubt…
do you have any kind of root inoculant bacteria based product or just the Hydroshield…
Thanks for your wisdom again…
On the safe side do a take change and add hydroshield.
Should have run this through the system first.
if I understand what hydroshield is…it kills all bacteria good and bad…I believe having some good bacteria in your nutrient mix is a good thing…
Correct, It wipes out everything. The good, the bad and the root rot. In 2 to 3 days will start reintroducing ‘Drive’ (put adds the good bacteria, enzymes, ect) back into root system.
I did a full tank change last night and added 3mls per litre of Hydroshield and the was ph’ed to 6.2 with ec at 1.5.
Check again before going to bed (2 or so hours) and it jumped to 6.7, quickly I dropped it back to 6.3. This morning it’s was back to 6.5 and PH downed it back 6.2/6.3.
The roots look better this morning, they are whiter and can see the fine roots are floating in the solution.
But she’s sad this morning, can’t work out what has happened to some of the lower leaves. Dried and crispy and looked like something was eating the surface of the leaves. This is on four so far with one of the four, Succumbing to the dead and crispy.
Could be related to the nuke from last night. Not sure again. lol
But learning heaps…
Will be heading to the hardware store shortly to see if I can get some better covers over the access holes (they have covers on them already) but want to ensure no light can enter the tank.
morning Mardy…I would not be concerned about that leaf at this time, probably due to your recent issues of concern… I use tin foil to cover my top of the totes to stop light from getting in…good to know your hydroshield somehow adds in some good bacteria …
Evening to all and everyone…
Thanks @StevOz and @Retiredoldguy for sticking in for all the questions.
Hyroshield is like a nuke but 2 to 3 days later it’s safe to bring back ‘Drive’ back into the system. This will reintroduce the good bacteria back in the roots.
I replaced and covered the level indicator tubing which was clear with removable black hose so I can still see it but now protected from light. The tube was very cloudy by the 4th day (A great idea and should have covered in the first place but… she’ll be right…. NOT ).
The access holes are now covered with plant water bowls which cover these completely.
Hopefully no more light in the tank
Light.
Added humidifier today as I noticed the tent was a bit dry. Now working out the average for three temp and humidity sensors. One complete wifi no name unit (have a few around the house), temp probe from my Phresh fan controller and I have another one that is for a tent heater. And last of all my humidifier. Might as well throw the dehumidifier in and it’s a royal rumble in hopefully in my jungle.
Humidity issues (well up for the moment)
Roots looking much better
But I sneaked a peek under a green light and checked to make sure the ph isn’t rising again (sitting at 6.3) apart from those two leaves, she looks like she’s back baby
hydro does that…the quick grow…
Just great, on a hunt for a proper DWC system myself. Yours is really giving me the incentive I need. Keep it up. Will be seeing your updates @mardy
Such BEAUTIES. KEEP IT UP @Retiredoldguy
There is no such thing as a proper DWC system. It is any sealed container with a lid, a nett cup, an air pump and air stones.
You are much better of going DYI. Much cheaper and you can build a better setup for way less money.
All you need is a tote with lid from you local hardware store or thrift shop, an electric drill with a hole saw, the air pump, air stones and air lines, I use black 4mm irrigation tubing and your golden.
@StevOz is correct.
The oxypot comes with an air pump (runs with two outputs), 2 air stones, a few air hoses.
But this wasn’t cheap and I could have made one myself for less. But it’s the little things like the channels for the airstones, access on the front and back for hoses, cords for pumps. Don’t have to do really anything but plug it in.
I’ve gotten to a point (doh getting old) sometimes it’s cheaper in the long run to have something that is designed for a job not make something fit for purpose.
But we will see.
morning Mardy…I don’t DIY as much as I used to either…
Morning all,
Not much happening here at the moment.
She seems to have stalled and no further growth.
Just finished with hydroshield (6days) and roots seem ok I think.
Full tank clean and change.
Ph: 5.8/5.9
EC: 1.5 or 1190ish (ppm700)
Tank temp: 19-20 deg
Tent temp: 20 to 23 depending on what happening
Light is at 50% 45cm above canopy.
I don’t know why I keeping getting root issues.
Might be time to change products and move away from what they recommended and go with something you guys recommend that I can get here in Australia.
Thoughts please…
I use the canna aqua nutrients here, I usually get them from eBay, though they do stock them at my local Bunnings.
I don’t follow the instructions and find that using half the recommended dosage is enough, using my EC/PPM numbers to determine dosages.
I also use a product from eBay called Go Green in small amounts during veg and early flower, basically Cal Mag with iron and trace nutrients.
At flower I also add some Canna PK boost, though again at half the recommended dosage seems more than enough.
As a rule always use half of the recommended dosage, companies want you to over use and waste product so they can make more sales.
