Hi everyone, a quick question about drying. It’s occurred to me that a quick fix to get my drying tent to down to ~60F and up to ~60% RH–the ambient air is both warmer and drier than this–is to place the plants’ grow bag, which is still filled with the soil it grew in, on the floor of the tent and to “water” it so that the damp (not soaking) soil adjusts the humidity upwards. The buds are hanging in the upper third of the tent, btw. Today I even began by placing ice cubes on surface of the soil in the grow bag, which melt and keep things moist and colder! There’s a 6" fan gently circulating air at/from the bottom of the tent and 4" extractor fan exchanging the air. I’ve managed to keep things fairly stable at about 62-65 degree F and 55-57% RH. Not ideal, but this is my question: am I somehow making a massive mistake doing it like this? Will a giant, evil Mould Monster emerge from the grow bag and devour my hapless flowers? To be fair, it’s kind of a weird scene: the bag sitting there with the nub of the whole plant sticking out, while hanging above it are parts of its former, living body, dangling down. I can’t decide if it’s more slasher flick or The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. Anyway, thanks for any advice!
I think it will be ok with air movement. I have to use a humidifier sometimes to get the humidity up.
IMO, 70-75F is better, and I wouldn’t add moisture unless I was living in the desert. Just air-dry in a dry, DARK place until stems snap instead of just bend, usually 1-2 weeks Then manicure and jar the buds. Open the jars periodically for several minutes during the next couple of weeks to vent additional moisture.
You can add a bucket of water with a rag sticking out of it by the fan to bring RH up
Better than a bag of soil IMO
I do this in my tents to bring RH up instead of using a humidifier
Can you post a pic assuming you have them? Don’t bother if you don’t
That’s a slick trick @spankyjr1 . Putting that one in the tool kit
I just hang with all fans. Pull a tad early. Paper bag a couple days to sweat. Jar. I do have a Wedryer but it is a small 1 and cant handle my recent grows. Dry climate here.
I don’t have a lot of space for hanging, so I’ll generally dry mine by laying in a single layer in shoe boxes in my spare bedroom. I’ll kind of reposition the daily for even drying until dry enough to manicure and transfer to mason jars for curing. Suppose I could pin them to clothes hangers in the closet. Trim goes into a paper bag if I feel like processing it into cannaoil for edibles.
