Question about 2 soils

@Bulldognuts @kdawg@covertgrower@mattybear@dbrn Hello all so I have a question as I am sure a lot of people have tried different soils here so im wondering the cost is going sky high but ive always used ff ocean forest soil and its been great! however since cost is getting out of control whats the difference between ff ocean forest and happy frog? are they the same? the reason is happy frog gives you 05 more cuft a bag the ocean forest doesn seem like much but over time it will add up. or are there any other soils that are comprable? any info would be great and thanks for all your help

Ocean Forest seems to be the preferred out of the two. I’ve always liked Happy Frog until my current grow. Happy Frog tends to be very inconsistent with its buffered pH it’s tested as low as 4.9 right out of the bag.

This seems to be a batch issue. So it’s kind of like potluck when you buy it. Other than that I love Happy Frog. I’ve never heard of an issue with ocean Forest except it’s slightly hot.

And I know what you mean about the prices they’re going out of control. Good luck to you

I started out using Ocean Forest and have used Happy Frog a few times after I found some marked down at a farm store. HF isn’t as heavily amended as OF. With OF I usually wouldn’t start using my nutrients full strength until 4-6 weeks into the grow. With HF I went full strength after 2 weeks without any issues. I’ve even started reusing soil because of the prices. Currently I’m using Coco Loco that was marked down by 30%
at the same farm store.

I know what your saying…ive been only using ocean forest as I too have had the same results right around 6 weeks the girls start letting me know the soil is needing help so thats when i start the nutes. so i guess the real question here is as the old saying goes you get what you pay for so ill have to suck up the cost of the soil and keep on going. Thanks for the replies it really helps to get others opinions and saves a lot of headaches later

soI have a question for you Bulldognuts…I seen here you said you dont start full strength with nutes till 6 weks …do you start nutes from seedling that just popped all the way thru till end?? im curious because Ive never started any nutes until 6th week or so . and I see your grows they are unreal so should I be using nutes from the start?? just curious I always thought that would kill seedling and young plants…maybe thats something Im missing :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

Yeah, I misspoke, when using new OF I only add Tribus and cal-mag until 5th or 6th week :+1:

With HF I will start adding nutrients by the 2nd week.

ok i gotcha! I was always wondering it seems like i only end up with around 7 or 8 ozs per plant if im really lucky! I know all these sites say you can get 15 to 24 ozs per m2 but ive never been that lucky as i said 6 to 8 and thats tops :face_with_raised_eyebrow: I dont know if im missing something or what my girls always look good and healthy just dont get the top yeilds for some reason

Just throwing it out there, sometimes you can get 2 2cubic feet bags of HF on amazon for as low as 54. I have the bundle saved in my cart as the price fluctuates 54-65. Most single bags of 2CF cost around 34-36 bucks.

Im also using OF Mixed with HF this go around for a couple reasons, mainly for the price of the OF, but OF does seem to be a bit better loaded than HF
