Fix Farm Ocean Forest

Hey everyone. I have a quick question about Ocean Forest. Does anyone have trouble with it. I’ve never run in soil before. It’s been about 9 years since I’ve grown anything. (Retured for awhile) I have always grown in coco before this run. Running a couple practice plants now. Bag seeds from the dispensary bud. Marmalate and Platinum GSC. Both are doing great. Starting 3rd week 12/12. Marmalate seems really sensitive in th FFOF. SEEMS that the soil is pretty hot. Finally have really good Ph draining out of the marmalate. Tks.

Go with Fox Farm Happy Frog because the FFOF soil is pretty hot for sprouting seedlings. :+1::+1::+1:

I’ve steered away from ocean forest for this grow. The last two bags I’ve gotten, the PH kept plummeting and I got tired of chasing it. It can be hot for seedlings. I always add about 1/4” of ocean forest to the bottom of my solo cup to “season” the plant to the OF and then transplant into Straight ocean forest and perlite when it outgrows the solo cup.

I like FFOF as my first time growing soil. Set and forget type approach. However am starting to dabble with nutes, and moving to happy frog. I will probably keep using it while in early stage of veg, in solo cups.

I grow with happy frog exclusively. I have to use very few nites in veg and the soil is largely depleted by flower. This allows me more control flowering better with nutes. Just how i roll.

Yeah I’ll be going back to coco next round. I’ve always used it and I am more comfortable with it. I have more control. Plus I have good seeds now from IGLM. Going to go with GDP with this next grow. Although the Marmalate is a strain I enjoy and it’s usually easy to grow.

Once all the nutrients have been used up in FFOF, then you are good to go. This means you start using the nutrient line like it was designed to do. I prefer using old soil but my one seeds took a swim in the toilet and it ruined my old soil. Now working 1 bag as a time so my next crop will rock. :+1::+1::+1:

Happy frog is great for vegging. Ocean forest is hot soil but if used for just flowering it is perfect. Add some dolomite lime to it to maintain ph and its a set and forget kind of deal. Really only use nutes 1 or 2 times in flower that way.

I am currently in a mix of two parts happy frog to one part ocean forest in two gallon nursery pots. I am NOT happy. It’s WAYYYY hot. I flushed my plants this morning because the ppm was 5600 and ph was 5.6ish!!! It took NINETY gallons of RO water to get the TDS and PH under control in nine 2 gallon pots. I’m currently looking for something different to start my clones on.

Sounds like a manufacturing line problem…
Something got dumped in massive amount during processing.
Having worked in manufacturing I know it happens sometimes and those things get shipped out before someone catches it.

My last two bags did this. The ppms weren’t hurting the plant because not all of that 5000 ppm are available, it was the constant acidity that kept causing problems. Even after flush correcting the ph, a week later it was back to 5.8. And this is with dolomite added. I think they were probably improperly stored bags that I bought and the peat had all broken down. Switched to roots organic this round and loving it so far.

@BobbyDigital Keep me posted! My local shop also carries roots organic. After the huge pain in the ass this soil has been in just the first couple weeks, I’ve been considering switching to a drain to waste coco setup with drip emitters. I was having nutrient lockout resulting in a wild ride with the deficiencies probably because of the acidity.

@Cannacure These two ladies sprouted tails on 5/1 and here they are today. First water to runoff was yesterday and had a glorious 6.6ph and 1500 ppm. Way faster growth than I’ve had even with good bags of ocean forest.

@BobbyDigital your’ babies look great! Mine are only 11 days old from the day they sprouted. I was battling the nutrient lockout and the calcium deficiency got them pretty good. They’ll be okay though. Just flushed them today and they are perking up and smelling nice.

Don’t look like they’ve had any issues. Look like a heavy indica, what are they? Going by initials gonna guess critical purp and sky walker?

They are strong little bastards! I’ll give them that. ILGM came through with some good genetics. It’s Skywalker og and Cherry Pie. This is my first indoor grow ever. It’s a perpetual garden with 3 tents, so I’m going to take clones of each of these plants and decide which will be mothers after we try out the flower of each plant. I’m in the process of obtaining more genetics for the mother/clone tent as well. I need some sativas.

I start and finish in FFOF.

So do I…this brand new bag ate a couple of regular seeds called Crumbled Lime. Oh well…but my Tora Bora is rocking the pollen. Major tent scrubbing after this crop is done.

Dude, that sounds like right my stuff right there!

It does sound good. Why I started them
In case I didn’t get a male and a female Tora Bora.
