Im new here and as a grower so I’m not entirely sure if im even asking right lol. I have 5 white widow regular seeds and 4 of them have cracked, 2 of which have tap roots and two have been planted. One of the ones that was planted hasnt come up yet, but the other one did. Once i switched them to my grow light instead of near my windowsill, the sprouted one turned really dark green and hasnt grown since. I put them in more breathable pots and put them back in the windowsill. Is my plant ok and if not, what should i do for it?
It’s putting down roots. Give it a bit…
The medium looks really wet, which is the most common cause of failed seedlings. Overly wet soil results in root rot, also called damping off.
Seedlings need very little water. You can leave the soil dry and put a clear dome which you mist inside to create high humidity. The seedling can then get all of the water it needs from the air inside the dome. If you choose to water, then plants only need a ml or 2 of water each day.
Thank you for the tip im going to try the dome thing. Ive been trying to figure out how to get better humidity anyways so its really helpful
Yea I was thinking that too. Hopefully they get better with time, but im also going to try little things to help them out
What things? I wouldn’t do anything other than maybe putting a dome over them. I usually take the dome off once they sprout. I water with an eyedropper. Just a few mls every other day of so for the first couple of weeks or so…
Looks like it may have the thin membrane still covering the baby leaves.
If so you can moisten it slightly and remove it with a toothpick.
If its still there it prevents the two leaves from opening up.
I have had it happen a few times. Its very thin and hard to see sometimes.
Yep im only going to put them in a dome to help with the humidity
Thank you so much, i hadnt heard of that yet
Let us know. Its just a possibility.
Other comments were spot on as well.
It seems like the plant did have some of the membrane stuck. I took it off really gently with a toothpick. Thanks for the advice, hopefully it grows better now
Just let her be and it should be great. Dont overwater as mentioned by others.
Welcome to the community @Lex I have nothing to add since the great growers above have provided fabulous information as usual.
Keep us updated on the wee little lass @Lex.
Looks like they got you covered so I’ll just say welcome
I had one that was stuck under ground that I was ready to abandon. I saved it and now it is by far the biggest if my 4.
Never give up on a sprouting seedling is my take away
Hey, this is her the day after. Do you think shes doing ok or is there something wrong? She looks a bit droopy to me. I put her in the dome and didnt water her since yesterday because the dome seems to be keeping it wet.
Hard to tell from the picture, but is the head of the seedling on the left?
If so it does look like something is covering her.
I agree don’t water and make sure it’s warm like you said and some light.
Again, don’t give up quite yet
See if you can get a super close up photo if the head for us.
Don’t add even a drop of water and make sure your temperature is above say 75 F. I think she should straighten up and start seeking the light soon. Even if the head is totally encased in something bad, she should still stand straight up.
And you have adequate light, correct?
