This is my second time trying to grow. The first time was with White Widow auto flowers and it never flowered due to my inexperience. I’m not that much experienced with my second grow but they are flowering. I’m growing Big Daddy Purple auto flowers and White widow auto flower but I’m so confused on when to harvest them. I’ve read so many things that are so different on when to harvest. I’m trying to upload a picture and if anyone can help me it would be so appreciated. I’m looking to harvest for the highest thc out of the plants for medical reasons and if I missed the boat on that well it won’t go to waste seeing cbd is also a good thing for medical but I’m more looking for the thc.

Perhaps a little further out( so I can see whole plant) and some super close in on the bud (not the “sugar leaves”)
The further out can help determine if you need to trim excess fan leaves, which I suspect… close ups that are in focus will help determine development of trichomes (crystals on buds) and what stage they are in.
At first glance, I think you need to do some defoliation and that you probably need more time for buds to bulk and stack.
Is this light sufficient for bud development? I ask because they appear a bit thin, but this could be due either to insufficient lighting or not enough time waiting, but in any case, I’m afraid you probably have longer to wait. A better pic of the trichomes will tell us if you are in the alert racy high stages Zoe if you have reached amber trichs and are in the more sedated area of thc

You definitely have a lot more leaves than needed at this point (in my personal opinion)

I’m the mean time, remove about half of those fan leaves (biggest first)

I speculate you’re going to need a better light, and it may be too late for this run. Those still have a long ways to go, but I’d be planning on a lighting upgrade.

leave the leaves!
only remove those needed for proper air flow and light penetration.
buds do not help the plant with photosynthesis…the leaves do.
@Dexterado may be correct about your light… however if you look up the ruteralis plant…the auto half… you’ll see it is just showing it’s genes.

I did want a shot of the whole plant, to really see, but imo, there are some unnecessary leaves there that are shading. Everyone has their way and methods, and I get that the leaves are the solar panels of the plant… but imo, at this stage, some of the leaves might be a hinderance
Do what you think best but I would trim some

Everyone has their opinion on defoliation. Put the information out there, make suggestions, but in the end, its up to the growmie.

I have pictures of the whole plants of my auto flowers of when should I harvest. I beyond being a newbie and am so confused about everything because there are so many opinions on cut fan leaves to not cut as well as when to harvest. These pics are of 1. White widow auto flower and 3 Grand Daddy Purplr. One out of three is a dud I guess because it really didn’t grow . My plants are what I call Charlie Brown Christmas tree because they are very thin. I was thinking of doing dry cutting when it’s time to harvest. If I do have to cut fan leaves can it be done in the flowering stage of an auto flower plant. What am I really looking for to know when to harvest that was my big question I don’t know if you could tell from these pictures but I really appreciate some feedback. The only light they’re getting is the sun I’m in the western mountains of North Carolina, so we always have a breeze. There’s one picture of feminized Goldleaf I’m assuming they’re way too bushy and if so, do I start trimming from the bottom or that doesn’t matter?
It appears the closeup of the bud you showed, there are seed pods. If so, that would make it a hermie

I think you need to look at the buds on each plant. It looked like you only showed a closeup of one plant. If the others don’t have seeds on it definitely don’t trash them all. Just the one……

Ok the other three look nothing like the one you put circles around. I removed the make. This is something I will remember for next time even though I thought they were females at the start I’m sure it would be wise to keep checking. From the pictures what should I be looking for when it’s time to harvest what little I have.
You got any closeups of the other buds? It usually spreads fyi. I can’t tell you how long you have left, need an expert to chime in. for that.
You want the pistols to turn from white to red, and then depending on your high, you want trichomes cloudy with a little amber or mostly cloudy if you want a more racey hi
You will need a not expensive usb microscope to really tell. Here is what they should resemble
I’d say you have another 4 weeks or more and your plants need more light. Your buds will be airy and fluffy and not much to them. When did the plants start showing pistils? You can plan on at least 8 weeks from when pistils were popping.
