Im a stubborn old a$$ too and HATE asking for help with anything lol. Have been enjoying kicking back, reading, and tinkering with things as i pick up tips here on the forum. But this frikin issue…wth lol.
It’s called water stress. Yes, it’s a real thing. If not caught and rectified it can lead to more serious problems…
Excessive wilting
Microbial/fungi life depletion
nutrient uptake restriction
Root Rot
PH swing
(and that is just what’s going on inside the soil)
I noticed you have some plants in a 5 gallon pots and some in 2 gallon pots.
Let’s concentrate on the 5 gallon pots.
When I was growing in 5 gal pots each girl on feed day would get exactly 1-1/4 gal of feed
I would get approximately 2-3 cups of water runoff. (This is what we shoot for)
You say you’re getting approximately just slightly under a gallon of runoff. This is too much.
Running this much water through a girl and not replenishing the microbial life in any form, You’ve more than likely depleted any microbial life in your soil.
The microbial life works hand in hand with your roots for nutrient uptake. Not using any microbial life recharging puts a little more negative icing to the cake.
@Metalheadfred read the above post I forgot to tag you. I honestly believe this is your issue.
You’re going to need to get a product like recharge that’ll give you a quick supercharge of microbial life back into your soil. This is not an option it’s more of a must do immediately if you want to see any improvement.
I would follow up by ordering voodoo juice and Bud Candy to continue to maintain healthy microbial life and feeding it throughout the remainder of your grow
Ty for the tag @Lostgirl hope I can help a bit. Looks like you guys are trying several recovery methods.
1 thing I would suggest is cease flushing. Once is good. 2 gallon pots are much more sensitive than larger pots.
Lets try no more flushing and watering to runoff. Water to moist. Lets treat the small pots as organic for a bit. PH in at 6.8. Add some sort of life. Even with no life, no heavy runoff watering. You can switch flower nutes to a top dress line. It will take a week to get going but ph water in from there.
If your nute line requires a flush for salts then once and switch nutes. No more flush. Back nutes to 50-75% for a week or so.
Heavy watering in small pots with runoff flushes a bit everytime.
If you stay with a lighter watering schedule more often you can control those small pots easier.
One thing a top dress nute will help with is a one and done ammend on schedule. Will never flush.
Using what you have back it down a touch. Remove all the bad yellowing leaves. Adjust watering to less and more often. If you add life keep it moist slightly and dont dry completely. If you dont still dont dry completely. SLIGHTLY moist. Runnoff is not necessarily needed with the little pots.
I have clones in 2 gallon right now flipped small. Watering is a little more often over a lot then dry.
A small pot concentrates everything in a low volume environment. Can easily overwater, ammend, have ph fluctuations etc. Switch feed to 1 or 2 times a week till recovery.
Lets not stress runnoff yet. Go with lighter feed and a change in watering patterns. Lets see where they go. After a week we will see where they are. Then we can feed more maintaining a watering schedule they like. Lets not defoliate yet. We want her to eat the soil clear of nutes then restart. No flush.
Here are clones flipped small in 2 gallon. Have never been watered to runoff.
Just want to mention we can overcontrol our grows easy. Nature does not water heavy all the time. Drenches. Then the soil at root zone never truly dries unless a drought. Rains again. Being in a medium so large, ph is life adjusted hence some of us focusing on a strong biosphere at root zone. Adjusts ph. Breaks down nutrients for easy uptake. Symbiotic with the plant. Dirt grows. Hydro and coco are different animals.
There are four 5gal pots and only the one 2gal in the middle which is a clone(apple fritter) from my last round. This one i didnt flush last week and has been pretty healthy throughout.
See what they look like at lights on this afternoon. The two i watered yesterday actually started slightly picking up their leaves late(around 2am).
I’ll need to water the other three today(biscotti front left, banana runtz front right and wedding cake back left). Ill go with much less runoff. i do want to get ph/ppm readings so maybe just a cup or 2 runoff.
The wedding cake(back left) is currently in the worst shape imo and happens to be the one with the lowest runoff ph(6.1 last watering) so im sure this is contributing to my issues somewhat. Going to give her a drink at 7.0ph today.
Throughout i had been trying to maintain what i thought was the recommended 20% runoff to prevent salt buildup. Thought switching to jacks for this grow was going to alleviate the need for flushes all together after using the ff trio originally ugh.
Hopefully get through this round salvaging what i can. Getting down to some larf from 2 grows ago sooo .
Have to reevaluate after this one. Probably go back to organic like the old days. Never had these issues with our old recipe back in the day with cheap garden soil, cow dung, castings, fish emulation, vermiculite, perlite, and some other stuff which i cant remember lol. Saw a pretty cool recipe here on the forum in my readings. Have to look that up again.
Anyway thanks again. Ill take all your suggestions and see what happens. Appreciate your taking the time!!
@Metalheadfred
Sorry for the late reply. I didn’t sleep very well last night. I was up trying to figure out what in the hell possibly went wrong with your grow
Yes that is exactly what you need to get.
Simply follow the instructions on the packet. I believe it’s like 1/2 tsp per gallon of water.
As to feeling today, I’m assuming you have a few 5 gallon pots to feed and maybe your 2 gallon pot to feed.
On your 5 gallon pots a simple cup of runoff is all you’re looking for.
On your 2 gallon pot you’re looking for just when it starts dripping out of the bottom that’s it
Also, thanks @Storm for chiming in the wee hours of the morning with me confirming all this.
Get that recharge ordered up quickly. Between revising your watering practices and utilizing the recharge your plants should return to normal as we’ve narrowed down the culprit.
If at all possible and it meets your budget I would order this small voodoo Juice. It will carry you through the entire rest of the grow rest of your grow providing you the necessary microbes
Also very inexpensive is the Bud Candy Bud Candy is a microbial feed that provides a luxurious 7 course dinner for your microbes. It keeps them well fed and thriving I’ve used it for years
I know you’re anxious to get a reply and I believe I’ve covered everything that you’ve asked before you need to water your girls again.
Note:
The recharge is going to work wonders if budget is an issue on voodoo Juice and Bud Candy just having the recharge will get you through a week or two until you can order the voodoo Juice and bud candy.
Yes you’re okay going in slightly higher on the pH intake of the feed to try and balance the runoff pH
Changing your watering practice is going to turn your girls around recharging your soil will help them to start eating better and roots will be able to do their job properly again
Since you’ve switched to Jack’s flushing should never be needed anymore like Fox farm trio was.
Ahhhhhh don’t lose sleep over my grow lol. Leave that for me
Its like my vehicles all my life. Always have some strange issue that i cant figure out lol. One of my work vans right now starts hard, runs like shit, stalls etc… cant figure it out and neither could the three shops ive had it too
I will definitely water to less runoff going forward. Ordering those items today but im sure with the weather we are getting up north here i wont get them till next week. ill muddle through till then.
@Reed71 funny you say that and what im thinking too. It’s been parked for months but i do start it once in a while just to keep the battery charged. Thought id take it out for a spin like 2 weeks ago for the hell of it and on my way home i smelled rotten eggs(sure sign of a clogged converter). I threw a bottle of that “converter cleaner” in the tank the next day but haven’t run it since. Not expecting much from that and too damn cold out to work on her in the driveway lol. Spring project.
@Reed71 and to add to that, i would have thought the van would have thrown a code for the converter but didnt when i had her in the shop.
Threw a code for the fuel pump so i replaced it and no change. Threw a code for security so i changed the switch in the column and no change some other items too lol.
@Metalheadfred
I feel your pain. My 2013 Hyundai Elantra through a P0455 code two weeks ago. It’s typically large evaporative leak. I replaced the purge valve under the hood and the gas cap. I cleared the code drove it for a week no light. I had my right blinker turning into emissions and the damn code came back on as soon as I pulled into the parking lot. If that ain’t Murphy’s law.
I made a smoke tester so I can smoke test the system the problem is the car sits very low to the ground and I don’t have a lift. It’s winter time and it’s breezy so it’s going to be very difficult to try and pinpoint this issue over the next 30 days.
I love to diagnose and fix my own stuff. I hate to go to any mechanic shop. My best friend mechanic just moved 400 mi from here lol
2 times i went out to start this van last summer at 5am before work and wouldnt start. Had it towed to a buddies shop and both times he called me an hour later and said welp idk what to tell you but it started right up
I try to do all my own work too. Too frikin expensive. Been working on cars since i was a 12yo kid. My uncle was a mechanic for chrysler back in the 70s 80s and taught me a lot. With all the new sensors and crap now though
@Metalheadfred I know it’s very frustrating nowadays. I can do anything around the engine but without a lift for this emission stuff it’s going to be insanely difficult. And there’s so much of it.
I’m going to attempt the smoke test and substitute the smoke with incense so I can go by smell as well. This particular car sitting so low to the ground isn’t making any of this easy whatsoever
@Metalheadfred sorry went off here i had make a run to town. Back in day we take them off and hammer a bar through them. Because them converters are way over priced
@Lostgirl@Storm
So everybody’s leaves were standing up a little better at lights on yesterday 5pm.
Only the banana runtz (front right) was ready for water.
The numbers were satisfactory i suppose but they all still look like crap lol. Alot of really dark yellow leaves with spots and some burnt tips on all of them. I did pluck quite a few of the worse ones. From what i can find seems like its possibly a calcium deficiency maybe due to the lower ph. Not sure though.
Waterd her to very little runoff. Just enough to get ppm/ph readings
Banana runtz
In:
Ph6.8 Ppm870
Out:
Ph6.41 ppm965
Ordered the recharge, bud candy and voodoo juice. Wont be here till next monday though. Thinking ill add some calmag to tonights feed on the wedding cake(back left) and the biscotti (front left) and the next feeding on everyone else.
