Nutrients for a first time indoor grow

Thanks Larry, my anxiety got the best of me and i ordered Jacks a and b for 70 bucks. However i still have not returned fox farm nut. I like the idea of not have to flush constantly as im told i will be doing. So i’m going to think about it a bit more or maybe just hold onto it for later use.idk!

Question, if i use eirher or ff or jacks. Should i still keep the cal mag, silica, seaplex nutrients

To each their own. Whatever works for you is best. Since you have both nutrients try a little experiment side-by-side and see which one you like better:-) if you do use fox Farm when you water make sure to water enough to where you have about 10% runoff out of the bottom. That will help you flush any build ups in the soil. Basically a little flush every time you water. And now you’ve got a little run off every time you water to test the PPM and pH if you feel anything is off. I only flush once. If I’m in a 3 gallon pot I am flushing with 6 gallons of pH water two weeks before Harvest. Just enough water to help the flushing process. I let the plant take up the remaining nutrients in the last 2 weeks. If it is Harvest Time and I feel like it hasn’t used up all the nutrients and is too high still I will flush again or I will give the plant another week. There are so many different ways of growing. Different watering techniques different nutrients different lighting etc etc. Again whatever works out best for you is the best way for you to go. Again have fun and happy growing

Yes keep cal-mag on hand. I found myself using more calmag with Jack’s than foxfarm but again that’s just me. It could be the type of strains of plants I have. I also use Silica and a kelp seaweed blend and molasses.

Great thank you!

I’m using Dr. Earth dry amendments plus molasses on my current grow, and so far very happy. Schedule is easy to follow and price was good for all three parts on Amazon.

No problem. Again this is just my experience and my two cents. Just remember to have fun:-)

I’ve heard of those nutrients. And also Gaia nutrients? I heard both of those work well as well.

You don’t need calmag with Jacks. You can adjust the epsom and part b if you have an issue. You really don’t need anything with Jacks. I only add microbes(fish shit, tpc billions, recharge, slf100 and tribus) with Jacks

A small-ish bottle of cal-mag is handy to have around, but not needed for Jack’s. The Epsom provides (is) the mag, and can be adjusted up or down as needed. The cal is supplied by the part B, which is calcium nitrate. This too can be adjusted, but you’re also adjusting nitrogen in the process. I’ve not had any cal or mag problems with Jack’s that weren’t self-imposed due to ph errors. The mag problem was minor and cal-mag wouldn’t have helped, as there was plenty, just locked out by ph.

That sounds like an excellent idea and it minimizes the amout of work flushing that is involved since it’ll be half of my plants instead of all 4. I love the idea of letting it drain out 10% every time i water. So i can test ph and adjust. You guys are amazing with all the help. I can’t tell you how much i appreciate it all. This forum is great.

You will still need your silica, whichever way you go. I don’t know seaplex.

That’s why I was using cal-mag instead of upping the other part of Jacks. I was running into nitrogen problems when I was upping the Jacks ratio

Yup. It’s just a handy bottle to have in the cupboard.

that helps to know thank you!!!

Just because I like a underdog, I would like to put this up for comparison. I have a out of state buddy who grows medical quality weed and has been trying to get me to try this brand. I wanted a nutrient line for a upcoming hydro grow. When I saw a starter kit online for $55.00 with free shipping I ordered it. So far it is super easy and mixes very clean, so far I see no salt residue on the drip rings. Mixes to about 5.0ph and is easy to adjust and stays there. There are six parts but you only use four at a time. Of course I am less than a week into using it? But I did order another kit before it went off sale.
I never used Jacks but I think measuring this in a shoot glass would be easier than weighting out Jacks?

Also after receiving this kit, I emailed them about adding cal/mag to my RO water and within 4 hours I received this reply.

With Mills, Basis A has calcium and Basis B has magnesium, so adding additional calcium or magnesium shouldn’t be necessary, even if you’re using RO water and/or growing in coco.
Since the nutrients are already in balance, if you do start seeing signs of calcium or magnesium deficiencies (or the plant just starts to look a little hungry overall), we recommend just raising the Basis A&B (in equal amounts) by a few ml/gal while keeping everything else as-is instead of adding a calmag additive.
This is because we find that usually what happens is that plants tend to show signs of a calcium or magnesium deficiency before other deficiencies. So if you use CalMag, you treat the calcium deficiency, but are more likely to see other deficiencies start to pop up. So what happens is you end up playing whack-a-mole going from one deficiency to the next, when really they just need a little more of everything. Because of this, we recommend adjusting the Basis A&B as necessary to keep them dialed in instead of calmag.

Hope this helps, if you have any other questions, just let me know.

Since I was going through exactly what he described with some plants that are about 4 weeks into bloom. I switched them to this at the week 4 bloom schedule, and they look happier now than in the last month.
Here are my little hydro clones.

I have only flushed one time with Sledgehammer and I use only Fox Farms. Including the Dirty Dozen with Kelp me, kelp you and Wholly Mackerel.

This is even after I bump the FF nutrients to full dose.

Its not hard to use Fox Farms. It takes me about 1 min yo mix the nutrient water up. It takes a lot longer to filter 1 gallon of water.

I tell others to use Jack’s 321 as well. My last two grows I only used nutrients 1 time for each grow.

Pretty frosty with only using nutrients one time for the entire grow cycle. She smokes exactly has she smells start to finish. Whether its inna pipe, bong or joint. Same taste start to finish which is amazing.

This is from one of my test tasters opinion of this plant. Purps #1.

Which bottle? Most are diluted calcium nitrate or calcium carbonate, both have nitrogen. I’ve been through this probably a dozen times here, could easily be an issue with frequency or amount of feeding and not necessarily an issue with what you were feeding. To each their own, but i found pretty odd you had more frost with ff stuff than anything. Imsickkid probably has most frosty plants on here and was perfectly fine with jacks.
