@Myfriendis410 the light I’m looking at is a square and the tent is square so should be ok. May have to do some calculations and play with the height. Is it best to have it further away when it’s a seedling?
I start my seedlings under a Meizhi 300 (125 watt actual) LED fixture and they run about 16" off the soil level.
Also; I think you were having issues with FFHF? You can add about 25% perlite and that will calm down the Ocean Forest FYI for your seedlings.
Is that something I can just get at Home Depot?
Yeah, usually in their houseplant section. Any nursery or garden store will have it.
When you get ready to start your seeds, reach out to some of the regulars and we’ll walk you through it.
Something to add on strain selection: many new growers start with auto flower thinking that they are easier and they can be but! photo period plants offer a wider range of control and my first thought when keeping a grow short was to use a SOG (Sea Of Greeen) technique with photoperiod plants; veg for a month and flip to flower. You would have 4 or 6 smaller mature plants as a result. @dbrn32 knows this technique as well. It may fit your requirements better.
Yeah that’s what I plan to do later. I bought the autos because I read was the easiest for beginners. BUT, I’d really rather control when they flower. How soon into the veg state can I flip over? May be worth getting another set of seeds if it’s pretty fast compared to autos. Again, being that I will be away come mid July.
The only thing I think you might be missing is a Ph Up and Down kit, if you haven’t already put it in your cart. Other than that, I think you’re good.
@raustin yep that was in my cart. I just finished ordering everything. Just need some distilled water (I read that’s necessary??). I’m about $400 in the hole. Sound about right?
I had asked about these things on a separate thread and got some pretty good answers re:formulas to use to figure out which works & with what. I didn’t go with top of the line anything, at this time. Basically, this is just a band aid until next year.
I’m ok with a temporary band aid, b/c now I can save up for either a can filter ir a phresh filter, as well as a couple really good fans.
Congratulations! You’re off to your first grow. Yeah, i think you have everything you’ll need. Distilled water isn’t absolutely necessary, I don’t use it, but a lot of people do.
Good luck!
that 4” fan and filter setup should do you great things in a 2x2 tent@jmorse28 good thinking about using the furnace/a room you can use that to your advantage
@AmnesiaHaze turns out the tent doesn’t fit in there so it’s going in a corner of my master bathroom. Which kinda sucks but I work in my bedroom most of the time so I can keep a close eye on things at least. I was really hoping to use the laundry room but I couldn’t fit the tent. Hoping the master bathroom will work out.
So can I just put the filter on the floor and put the fan on top of it? Or should I duct out of the tent? And is keeping a vent open to pull in fresh air going to let odors escape the tent?
@raustin Thank you. Now if the seeds would just get here! Can I use tap water and PH balance it first? I think my water has a bit of chlorine in it.
No I would suggest for the fan and filter to be mounted on the top of your tent to also aid in temp control, it will exhaust all the heat generated when your tent is closed up. Mount the filter to the fan, then hang both and use a flexible duct to route the exhaust side of the fan out the top of your tent and if you are allowed, exhaust it to a totally different room. Preferably a room no one goes into as well. @jmorse28 what do you work in your bedroom for? A webcam model or something? Lol
You can veg for 3 or 4 weeks and flip them to 12/12. There are arguments for doing this in some circumstances. But it costs seeds, or you take clones of a particular plant. Not what you will have time for if you want to meet your deadline.
HAHA! No. I’m a photographer so I do all the editing in my bedroom. Emails and such too. So whenever I’m not shooting, I’m in my room taking calls, emails, and editing.
I can’t exhaust into another room. Every room in this house is used by someone and I won’t put a hole in the wall. Why would it be better to exhaust into another room anyway? If the scrubber is cleaning the air, shouldn’t odor free air come out of the exhaust coming out of the tent?
How long in bloom typically once you flip them? Damn that reminds me … I didn’t get a timer. And why does it cost more in seeds?
To route your exhaust “up and out” of your room the tent is in, it will lower humidity and temp if you need the extra few degrees and %humidity to control is all
Hahah didn’t think so, well that’s cool photography is a great career! Think of putting your girls in the high times mag! Lol
I also work in my bedroom and my tent is only four feet from my bed. The sound from the fan is actually nice as white noise. The good thing is you’ll be giving your plants extra C02.
I think you should wait till you get your filter and fan to see how you want to hook it up because you might have to put them outside the tent only because your tent is quite short at only 4’. You’re going to need room for the light too. I had to attach my fan, filter and light in two layers at the top of my tent (2’×2’×5’), I’m not sure you’ll have enough room to do that.
You can Ph your water for the seeds, honestly, I don’t even do that. I use straight tap water for my seeds and never had a problem. Maybe you shouldn’t listen to me. ![]()
I didn’t think of the height of the tent I’m sorry @jmorse28 and @raustin good idea!! Your right she might need to hang the fan and filter outside the tent. Which does mean more noise, but the inside tent temps will be a degree or two lower because the heat the fan produces won’t be inside the tent trapped
The strain you choose will have a flowering time listed. That is an average but for Indica dominant plants figure 65 to 70 days, give or take. Sativa can take upwards of 4 months in flower. The only real time savings is to shorten veg time. So if you wanted to do a SOG grow you would have to plant many more seeds than you would with a more traditional grow, costing you per seed.
The other thing about autos is if you are height limited you might be in trouble because we’ve seen some mighty large auto flowering plants. Again looking at using a photoperiod plant might do better for your situation. You at least have some control over height.
Yes I’ve seen some pretty big ones. I plan to SCROG mine so that it becomes a small bush. I’m not trying to grow the biggest plant. I just want to get some good buds. Or just keep this sucker alive my first try!!
