Hi everyone! I’m getting ready to start my first grow ever. I’m going to grow northern lights auto. Any advice or suggestions will help before starting
My set up is
-Vivosun 2x2 tent
-Mars hydro 600
-one 6inch clip on fan
-4 inch carbon filter
-Two 5 Gallon flower pots or two tall 5 gallon buckets I can drill holes for drainage.
-Fox farm ocean forest soil
-Ph meter and PPM meter
-Ph up/down
-Tiger boom/Grow big/Big Bloom and cal-mag.
-Humidifier & meter
My questions are, do I need anything else?
Also with the tent closed during grow, how does fresh air get in while carbon filter pulling it out? Do I need to do anything for that? Lol same question for drying period in the tent. Tent will be closed and humidity checked with fan on low, will I need fresh air getting in? Any advise help. Thanks and happy growing!
In the beginning of the grow, you won’t need a lot of Aier exchange but as they mature and get older and into flowering you’ll want lots of airflow. The way it’s typically done is passively from the bottom air intakes with the fan exhausting out the top, this removes excessive heat in the tent.
Also zip tie those clip on fan so they don’t fall on a plant.
Happy growing
I recommend 7 gallon fabric pots. They’re cheap too.
You have to supply an intake path; normally at bottom of tent. Exhaust fan at top of tent on other side pulls air through the intake and out. Carbon filter is not needed until flower and high humidity will rob it of it’s life.
You can still have air exchange during the drying period. You can work with any RH, but you’re looking for 50-60 RH if you can.
A dehumidifier or humidifier (sometimes both) would be great tools to have depending on your regions weather.
You want very low humidity (if possible) during the last weeks of flowering, this reduces the chances of mold, and brings out more trichomes.
Trying to get a fabric pot from amazon but none of them are 2 day delivery with prime. I’m dying to start growing lol is there a HUGE difference if I grow from a 5 gallon bucket rather than a fabric pot?
Thank you. Just found fabric pots on amazon. Coming in Saturday. I can wait but might try one in a bucket and one in fabric pot lol not sure I should be experimenting though on my first ever grow
I have seen a lot of new growers over the years get in trouble because they did something out of ignorance and had a tough grow to deal with. My advice would be to find a method that works for you after you have grown out a few plants. To do that I would just toe the line and use proven ingredients and tools to get you to the finish line. Getting a couple of harvests done is the best calming tool you will get and from then on you can look at media and methods to find what works for you.
I’ve done a variety of methods successfully but for me growing in Promix is my personal favorite. For @Not2SureYet that would be coco. Soil growers, @big123 top of the list but he’s an animal haha. (you’ll see what I mean)
Find someone on the forum who you can interact with well and who has some valuable grow skills and ask them to mentor you. IMO this is better than getting a dozen (sometimes differing) opinions on an issue.
You left out a lot of info I think. One is. Have you al ready started the plant? is it an auto or photo? For me. It is easier to start in a solo cup. Then move up to a 1 gallon pot, And then to the final pot. Your 5 or 7 gallon pot.
Now. Are you really thinking of trying 2 plants in that tent? If so, you may need @dbrn32@MattyBear or @Bogleg to help you with some thing near a sog. That is a pretty small tent. Another issue you are going to have is the height of your tent. Using a mars 600 will need to be kept farther from the plant most of the time. I used viparspectras in a 80" tall tent and had to have them as close as I could get them to the top of the tent. I was doing autos. With a photo. You can flip it sooner.
I’m not trying to scare you. just letting you know what I see that could be issues down the road before they come up. There are plenty of great growers here that will help you out for any thing you need.
If your fan & filter set up can be used out side the tent. That would help too. @Myfriendis410 has his fan set up on the out side of his tent. It sounds like you are on the right track.
I’d be curious to know if two 5 gallon buckets will fit into a 2x2? Maybe diagonally in opposite corners?
A big pot is easy way to help assure you will have smooth grow, but really limits what you can do in small space. If the thought is going with 5 gallon or larger pot I would probably just run 1 plant.
I got a bag of fox farm ocean forest but I see a lot of posts on here about happy frog. What’s the difference and will I be okay with ocean forest for autos?
This website is crazy. It’s really like a whole community lol I feel alot more confident with my first grow knowing I can ask for help here. I haven’t planted yet. All my stuff just arrived. I’m just trying to figure out how to start all this up. I thought I could do 2 plants due to some videos I watched on YouTube in a tent my size. But I think I’m going to just do 1 plant and focus on that. I’m going to grow northern lights auto. Waiting on my fabric pot to come in Saturday and then going to germinate and start up. Got a bag of fox farm ocean forest to use. Since I’m doing an auto, should I plant directly into its final pot?
I missed it the first time, do you have a fan to attach your carbon filter too?
You’re gonna have to get cute in order to make things work. I kinda like the idea of a 5 gallon bucket, but I would maybe consider cutting a few inches off it. Maybe turn it into a 3 gallon or so bucket? If you have a fan and filter in there you will be pressed for room before you even have a plant growing.
Yes I also have a fan for the filter but I might set it up on the outside of the tent. I don’t have enough room to get a bigger tent but if this works out, I have a huge Wall closet that I’d like to convert into a grow room. It’s about 120 inches in length. But that’s if this all works out lol I have 5 gallons buckets and ordered 5 gallon fabric pots coming in Saturday.
