Newbie questions ... planning my setup

Hmm, the link doesn’t work, but I’m sure it’s fine.

This light … should I pull the trigger?

So my tent doesn’t fit in the laundry room. Too many pipes and it would be too close to the furnace for my comfort. Doesn’t fit in the original closet where I was going to put it either. It’s going to have to to go in a nook in my dining room which isn’t ideal because it faces a huge window. Or in the corner in my master bathroom which I think is perfect but the husband will say it’s an eyesore. I will just argue that I will only have it there for like 3 months. But I’m going to have to find a new grow space. I might trying growing one outside when I get back from my trip in July. I want to make sure I’m here to care for it.

I thought I could get away with a high quality whole room filter. Nay, nay. I just bought carbon filters & fans for both tents.

I was told on Wednesday that my sweetheart could smell it, not only in our bedroom, but outside of the house, too.

There went another $214 bucks. Lol!

The fan noise may make it hard to sleep for first week or so

fan speed matters where filters are concerned and this also harkens back to my meantion of Neg air pressure mind you sometimes a paranoid spouse simply imagines smelling things  My misses says she smells my grow all the time yet it is in a shed outside lmao. She can’t smell her hairspray or air fresheners yet I get almost sick at the smell

@jmorse28 sorry to hear about your grow space. Do you have a garage? A shed? As long as you have enough warmth, you can do it. Not sure where you are geographically. Might even need AC. Dining area you’d probably be ok, this depends on your state laws. Bathroom would work too.

Oh, no…I can smell it, too. Lol!

I went with a 220cfm for my small 2x4x5 tent, and a 440cfm for my 2.5x5x6tent. I’ll have to buy speed controllers in my next order.

@Donaldj Uhhhhh… I sleep with the TV on so hopefully that will help. It’s like 20 feet away from my bed with a water closet in between the bedroom and where the tent would be. If it’s in a bigger open room(the part of the bathroom where I plan to put it is like 12 by 8 or so. So wouldn’t the air pressure be better than if I stuck it in a stuffy closet? Or am I just not understanding the negative air pressure. I need to go watch a video on this. Does the fan speed matter for noise or order control? Seriously … why can’t this be easier? I can see my husband complaining that he can smell it. I think the neighbors smoke and he always comments that he smells it as he walks up the front walk. He doesn’t even like the smell of incense.

@Covertgrower by my state laws … my dining is probably not a good idea. I do have a shed but there’s no electricity in it and it gets super hot in there in the summer. And right now it’s too cold.

@blackthumbbetty does the 220cfm do a good job in your smaller tent? Mine is only 2x2x4.

Carbon filters have duel ratings 1 for min speed the other for max I have a rather industrial filter rated at about 120 min and 660 max for exhaust I run it around 200-440 the filter alone is almost $350 weighs 90lb’s is 16"x32" with 2" thick carbon bed but could scrub the air in my whole house every 3 minutes lmao

Seriously … I can’t have the house smelling. My kids will know what’s up REAL QUICK. Does it smell a lot if you grow it outside? The concern here is the weather. Still like 50 degrees and then goes to like 90 by end of June. Besides, I’ll need to dry it inside won’t i?

Are you my neighbor? lmao sounds like my place

They can smell quite a lot if outside at certain times of day mornings in particular but a few plants is easily mistaken. If fan and filter are properly pared the only time you smell anything is tent open and plants disturbed

Ok so I’d have to make sure no one is home when I open the tent. That’s not a big deal. My kids are hardly ever home. Maybe if I put some ONA gel in the bathroom too?? That’s if the Mr. is ok with me putting it in the bathroom. Only concern is the my nosy 14 year old would open it up. They rarely go in my bathroom though. He’s the one I want to make CBD oil for tho so I could see him being nosy and then I’d have to hide the stash in God knows where.

Smaller than mine but note the ratings in the pictures

note thee fan speed is under max rating on exhaust

Ok, last scenario. Would it be totally stupid to put a grow tent outside?? Again the concern is the temperature. But if you’re growing openly outside you can’t control the temp anyway right? I’d stick it in the damn shed if it had electricity.

@Donaldj I’d rather not drop that much money if I don’t have to. I’m worried my husband will complain and I’ll only get to grow one plant (if I’m lucky) and that will be it for my indoor growing capers and will have dropped like $600 in the process.

You could put a tent outside as long as it’s secluded?
If your referring to @Donaldj commercial carbon filter, it is overkill in your situation.
You could go with a 4” exhaust fan you should be fine. 2x4 grow tent correct? @jmorse28

Ok screw it. It’s going in my bathroom. Husband said he doesn’t really care as long as it doesn’t stink up the place. He’s getting softer in his old age. LOL. Keep in mind this man hasn’t so much as smoked a cigarette and I keep telling him I’m going to sneak him a cookie and he says he’ll kill me. Says he’s afraid to get hooked and then we’ll have a problem on our hands. Haha! He’s cute.

Ok so … I’m going to just go ahead and get those last lights I linked above and is this carbon filter combo ok??

Again… it’s a small 2x2x4 tent. It has a vent on either side. I will hang the filter at the top and put the exhaust tube out of the top. Do I need anything else? AND, does the fan go attached to the filter or does it go on top of the tent attached to the exhaust tube? I’ve seen it both ways.

If you’re thinking about outside, then think about an opaque greenhouse that the nosy neighbors can’t see in to. Then you take advantage of the sun for savings.

When deciding on a light think about the footprint you wish to illuminate. If your light is square and tent is rectangular then…

was replying to @blackthumbbetty just example of how filter should be pared with fan for them to work their best
You don’t have to buy so nice of gear when starting out but when committed to it you start to realize it’s an investment not an expense and you do get what you pay for. Can is one of the first companies to make Carbon filters and they make sure you know what they are rated for and what you buy works as advertised. Many sellers buy a cheap fan cheap filter and pair them with no clue sell them at mark up and don’t care if they work right, paring them yourself saves frustration
