New grower of any plant ever, when to begin watering

TL;DR When and how often should I water my seeds right after I place it into the soil .

Hello all! This is my first time growing anything since like 2nd grade science class (letting bean seeds germinate on tissue paper, wild times)

I plan to do an outside grow using Fox farm happy frog and there 3 bottle nutrients in 5 gallon fabric pots. Autoflowers btw.

Here’s where I’m stumped all posts I come across mention germinating in a glass of water or tissue then placing it in the medium to sprout then they seem to time skip to weeks later then mention water cycles/habits but what about watering when you just place the seed into it’s new medium.

Does the soil have enough moisture to feed the seeds for a few weeks or is there a watering cycle I should be following from the time I first place the seed in the soil? Sorry if this is an obvious question but with my luck I’ll end up growing an apple tree somehow  thanks guys!

Also first time posting in any type of forum!

The seedling doesn’t need a lot of water the first few weeks. I add a couple of ml at the base of the plant every other day or so. I use an eyedropper.

Gotcha, okay that makes sense. I read somewhere about running water through the pot 3 times the amount of the pot then planting but I’m not sure if that a good idea. The idea was to ensure the soil is thoroughly wet before placing the seed but idk how credible that method is.

Thank you! Enjoying my stay so far!

Well that seems high, I run COCO which only takes a gallon even with a 7 gallon pot. But I don’t know on soil. I know @Low had time with flushing one plant but not for watering.

Flushing 4 7 gallon pots in a bunk batch of happy frog.

I need ppms (and scale,) pH, both in and out before I can give any sort of advice. Or try to help.

That’s okay. Just water sparingly for the first couple of weeks.

After they are in larger pots, I start them on a flood and drought. I soak the plants real good every week or so with a good watering every other day or so.

When it comes to the whole PH stuff my brain kind of konks out. I ordered a moisture and PH gauge but I doubt I’ll ever use it I’m a ditz and it’s too much science for me haha

It’s an important tool. Without it diagnosing problems will be guess work. Just saying. It’s doable… but rarely do you get the desired results.

I liked that in the sense that you’re willing to admit it.

Trust me you will use it. At some point it can make a difference.

Best way to kill a plant.

If you are going to use FF nutes you will use the PH pen trust me. It is very late in the season even for a auto. What part of the country are you in? If you are in a temperate part of the country, wait until next year. Chances are they will not finish before cold and snow.

I shall do some more reading on this PH

I’m in NYC I’m planning to try 1 seed out of 15 just to see how it goes.

I am still new to cannabis, but from my first go and now I recommend COCO over soil, but I like control and the science behind all of it.

If it’s something you really think you will enjoy, spend as much time as you can reading from others and journals. There is a lot you will learn and what works for others won’t work for you the same. Which isn’t bad.

Best advice I have is always remember to stop and think. Take a moment now and then and just stare at your plants and think about the next stage and what you want to accomplish from your plants. Doing that will help mitigate any potential issues cause you’ll always be thinking what you need to prepare next and you’ll start to notice small changes in your plants and can address them promptly.

I guess you can start but you will not get anything to smoke. I am only 7 hours from you, just South and West some. I am 5 weeks from harvest well into flower.
In our growing zone we go into flower mid Aug. Just so you know.
I would honestly spend the winter reading every thing you can find until your eyes bleed and read it again, watch a few hundred hours of videos.
Lastly get some house plants to nourish with out killing them. As you are not an experienced grower of things. These things grow just like a house plant or veggies.
Have fun with the venture never be afraid to come here and ask questions, there are some very experienced people here.

Good advice will definitely take a moment to stop, think and plan. Hope I’m not too lasts in the season to plant. Just itching to get it started!

If you were in Southern Arizona you might be able to sneak in an Auto flower and get it to harvest before the end of the year. But not in your neck of the woods and it’s almost October. It will not survive the first frost.

I think you could have gotten away with it maybe if you started mid to late July, but even that may have been pushing it. When do you start to drop into the 40s where you’re at?
