Steps to growing my autoflower

Hi everyone, I’m very new here but on my way to starting my own grow. Ive been going through all kinds of info for hours and finally came down to what I think is good for a beginner. Mind you these products are locally sold in Hawaii and why I omit more popular choice because of time constraints.

I’ve seen multiple times that the common thing for autoflowers is to go straight to their forever home. So I was thinking in a 7gal Smart pot, layer the bottom with Fox Farms Ocean Forest, mid layer with Fox Farms Happy frog, and start germination with a Coco coir and perlite mix. Afterwards I’ll probably get the Fox Farm trio if needed but that I don’t know.

Alternatively I would switch out both Fox Farm products and go with just Roots Organic original with the Coco Coir in the middle

Would love help from anyone. Thank you

Soul and coco coir grows are different and shouldnt be combined. Peat moss would be a better selection than coco to mix in and give you better results

Welcome to the community Growmie. I would recommend starting the seeds in solo cups after a 48 hour water soak and a tap root appears. Dropping a seedling in a 7 gallon pot can be difficult to get a watering routine down while the tiny roots develop…much easier in a solo cup and transplant after a solid 14 days above ground. I would also recommend starting these in the same medium you’re going to grow and finish them in. 2 different mediums with 2 different PH requirements. Soil 6.5, coco 5.8 :love_you_gesture:

Thank you that does help quite a lot. Should I just start with the Happy frog or Roots original? I just don’t want any Nutrient burn right at the beginning because I know Ocean Forest is for later in the cycle

I see a lot of cultivators starting in happy frog and layering the final pot with the FFOF in the lower 1/2 and HF in the upper half of the final pot. Some start straight in the FFOF as well or straight Happy frog. Can’t go wrong either way :love_you_gesture:

What @OGIncognito said. Solo cup, and transplant. My opinion, 5 gal. is good for auto, but 7 is ok too. I use straight happy frog start to finish. No issues, but layering with ocean is ok too. I’d keep coco out of it.

Thank you and to everyone else. This is the answer I was hoping for and assured me I was sort of making the right move lol

I’ve started all my autos in their final, three gallon pots. I grow in coco so it makes watering a lot easier. If you go with soil for this grow I’d recommend trying coco/perlite for your next grow. It requires daily watering but gives you much more control over what’s in the medium at any given moment.

If I was doing a soil grow I’d use the exact process @OGIncognito outlined. Matter of fact follow any advice he gives you. Good luck and happy growing.

I’m new trying autoflower outdoors in 5 gallon pots. I have the top 1/3 soil is Frog, 1/3 is Ocean Forest and 1/3 is Ocean Forest with Super Soil mixed in. I don’t know if I need to use the FoxFarm nutrients or just rely on the nutrients in the soil. I have just started my autoflower seedlings in Frog in small biodegradable seed starter pots.
Should I be on a watering schedule or just when the plants need it?
We have grown many grows inside a grow room with feminized seeds and done very well on such schedules with nutrients.
This is a new adventure with the auto flowers and outdoors. I keep them in an enclosed porch with lots of light at night and if the weather isn’t good and put them outside if the weather is nice.
I’m looking to buy more seeds that are auto flower and will give me high-yield. Any suggestions?
I’m also going to try the LST on some. I will be setting up a greenhouse and want to have at least 10 plants in there.
Any advice or suggestions on strains?

You don’t really need a watering schedule in soil. Just do a wet/dry cycle and water when needed. If you’ve grown photos in containers then I’m sure you can lift a pot and know when to water.

I don’t have many indoor grows under my belt, but gg4 was my best yield. I got a little over 26oz from three of them. Really good smoking strain too. Highly recommend it. Good call on LST. It’ll do a lot for your final yield.

So these 3 are from my local Walmart and produced locally. Which means great availability BUT they provide little info about nutrients. They look like pretty good mixes but no idea if they’re hot or not

This is the common soil sold at Walmart. It shows a .03-.01-.01 nutrient mix

Would love to hear from anyone

Find where you can get Happy frog or Ocean forest. Cant go wrong with either. You can mix a little peet and perlite into the Ocean forest to make it not so hot. Happy frog youll have to start feeding nutrients after 4 weeks. Ocean forest after 6 weeks. This varies from plant to plant but close enough. Get a good PH meter and a good TDS meter. Apera makes great meters. Testing the tds of your runoff will tell you when it time to start feeding nutrients.

I started my last grow using root riot plugs. No soaking, i put the seed straight into the plug. 5 to 7 days later this is what you should get.
