I germinated northern lights auto for 24 hrs and then put her in a 5 gallon bucket 50/50 coco perlite mix this is my first grow but I started thinking like maybe I should’ve started in a smaller pot so I start to search for the little seedling and I couldn’t find it now I’m just sitting here hoping for the best I could use any advise atm and thanks to whoever took the time to read this
You just have to wait it out. Most new growers plant the seeds too deep and therefore they take longer to pop up germinated or not. Also some auto growers prefer not transplanting and planting in final pots. Give it a few days and you should see her pop out. Most growers on here say stick your finger in the medium to the 1st knuckle so maybe a half inch to an inch max seed depth and patience lots of patience lol but i get it im always eager at the start of a new grow

I appreciate the response also should I be watering a lot ?? I also planned on leaving the grow light on for 18 hours and 6 hours off would that be okay ? Or should I be trying something else ?
Many who grow autos on here do 18/6 so i believe that would be fine. Im in rehydrated coco and some earthworm castings now and my flower tent i water daily. My veg tent is now a bit over 1 month old and i could water daily if i wanted to. Flower tent in using 5 gal daily between 17 plants and veg tent half gallon per plant every 2 days

Previous grows i have started seeds in their forever pots. But i use a plastic bottle for a humidity dome. And place a circle of small river rocks around the bottle to stabilize it from the fans not knocking it over. But also as a water buffer so i dont put to much directly on the seedling. However future grows i will be starting my seeds in root plugs. And baby starter trays.

It would be a good starting point. With the perilite you might get away with doing it every 2 days as it retains moisture more than coco. I go by the weight of the pot. After you water to runoff lift it a couple of times and get a feel for that weight then everyday keep checking and feel the difference. When i go 2 days without watering the pots are very light maybe a pound or less (1 gal fabric pots) when wet they 5 lbs. Just a guess on weights really but get the feel for watering by weight and then you’ll know where you stand on your watering schedule. Also im not sure what nutrients your using but some nutrients are rather hot (fox farm) and the plants might not want fed daily and you might need a water and feed day to keep from a salt buildup issue

I too had a similar circumstance where i thought one of the two autos i planted was a dud but i let it ride out, eventually it popped up and is now seemingly further along than the one that sprouted first

If it’s just a seed, i would only mist the soil 1 time a day. That’s what I do. I only mist until the 2nd set leaves come in. I had the same situation with my purple Thai. Went to put 1 seed in and lost it, dropped another in and surprisingly they both sprouted at the same time. Only let the stronger looking of the 2 grow. As for you pot, I always plant autos in their forever pot. Less stress with autos are best.

You all give great feedback I can’t wait to see how it turns out also any tips to avoid root rot because my soul would be crushed if I have to experience that lol

If your asking me then i believe root rot is more so a hydro problem like if your roots are sitting in water or if you were in a plastic pot. I havent heard of anyone having issues in coco but heres a brief description about it from this website. To make a long story short if your in fabric pots and have pot elevators (or your fabric pot isnt sitting directly in runoff daily) then you shouldnt have any issues
What Causes Cannabis Root Rot?
To help eliminate the potential causes of cannabis root rot, all of the following actions are recommended:
- Do not disturb the roots
- Change the reservoir
- Do not allow the roots to sit in stagnant water
- Avoid warm reservoirs
- Eliminate light leaks in your reservoir
- Make certain there is enough oxygen in the water
- Maintain adequate oxygen levels
- Immediately remove dead leaves or decaying matter in the reservoir
- Do not overwater your plants
If you recently changed your reservoir or disturbed the roots of your plants, root rot is a distinct possibility. The risk increases if your plants are still young. Do not disturb the roots of your seedlings unless absolutely necessary. Roots need time for building up a biofilm is critical for protection from root rot.
If your growing medium is either coco coir or soil, the number one cause of root rot is stagnant water. Undesirable organisms will thrive in old water obtaining light from any source including the sun. Allowing your plants to remain in this water is essentially an invitation for root rot because a breeding ground will develop enabling unwanted organisms to thrive

With a fresh sprout only mist soil and keep humidity in tent at 60-65% or put a dome over her for the first week, week and a half and only mist soil. I spray like 20-25 pumps a day from mist bottle. After the first 10 days you can water but only like a 1/4 cup and water 2 or 3 inches away from leaf tip in a circle, dont water at the base of the sprout. Dont worry about the soil dryness until you get to seedling stage. This is when the first true leaves show.

I agree with @Docnraq and i should of specified that above. This will be later down the road when she is bigger that you can water daily or every other day. Id do as he says until you get past the seedling stage
This is the rock ring is was talking about. Now that they are set. I will only water outside the rocks to encourage the roots to spread out.

I dont really keep a schedule as to when i water. I go with the benign neglect. Aka leave it alone until it needs something. Wait until i think shes dry, then wait another day then water. Ive had too many issues watering too frequently compared to a slightly parched plant
This shouldn’t be an issue in coco coir as its practically impossible to overwater but you can underwater coco coir and make it hydrophobic so be cautious and try to get on a set watering schedule by dry vs wet pot weight or day by day

I pretty much water small plants and clones daily. Some more then others depending on their individual needs. Larger vegging plants and older get watered every other day to the point of testing my run off. Depending on my readings may cause an individual plant to need a ph or nutrient adjustment. Causing me to give the plant more water in order to correct the plants issue. Testing the run off and removing it from the tray until i like my numbers.

Im sorry, you are correct bigcat. i should have been more specific i use soil mixes. My lifestyle is too hectic for coco🤪
