New Grower | Can anyone help?

Hello All,

I have previously grown 1 Autoflower however it was very unsuccessful so I have decided to try again and not use an auto flower this time!

It has been 5 weeks since germination and planted into soil which is kept in my conservatory at night as temps drop to around 20-21c however is moved outside during the day when it rises (24c). I’m using normal bottled water daily and a plastic bag to keep humidity in. I have been told it isn’t bushing out enough for a 5 week plant!!

What should my next steps be? Is it worth keeping? Is it going to do okay? etc etc.

I am starting to read the Robert’s Grow Guide to help assist as i am very very new to this and don’t have an adequate budget for all the fancy grow equipment. I’ve attached pictures I took yesterday and I will comment below this with pictures of what it looks like today.

Hey @logxnbond , Welcome to the forum.
This is 11 days…

This is about 5 weeks

Whatever your basic setup is it seems the plant is just surviving and not happy.
Tell us what your soil, temperatures, watering habits, and anything else you can tell us about your routine.
We are eager to help out. I started out worse than you have, that plant looks like its getting plenty of light as its not lanky looking.
I can tell you that soil is way way too wet. Cannabis likes wet/dry cycles. Don’t water for a few days and let that dirt dry out. That algae tells me you have kept it too wet.

Thank you,

I just watered it before posting so the soil is still absorbing the water.

I’m unsure on the soil however I do know it was provided with some other plants that I bought. The temperature is an average 22*c.

I use a spray bottle mainly however today I poured a little water around the edges and tried to keep the stem dry.

It looks green due to the conservatory reflecting the leaves this is a picture inside. However I do see the green moss around the edges and the top iswell I just hadn’t noticed as last time it looked green and wasn’t cause of reflections!!

Stop watering daily.
Dont cover it with any domes or baggies. I only cover them before they sprout.
Cannabis roots thrive when the soil dries out. Your roots are starving for oxygen.
No spraying either.
Here is a plant I started in damp soil and did not water for 3 solid weeks. Not a drop not spray …Nothing.
At 2 weeks with no water…

At 3 weeks with no water, finally drooping.

I promise they wont suffer with less water.

Okay, I will stop watering daily… When I start to use fertiliser it has to be mixed with water will it be okay if I’m only fertilising rarely as I want the roots to dry out?

Do you think the plant will recover and catch up?

Yes, It should recover just fine.
You will need to transplant at some point.
I suggest getting a cannabis friendly soil like Happy Frog and transplanting into that as soon as you can. The plant will do better in that. Over watering is the biggest problem for new growers. That is not watering too much at one time, but watering too often. Cannabis likes to have wet to dry cycles. You can go several days at first. Then as the plant grows and starts to get big you will have to water every 2 or 3 days.
But for now just let it dry out more and in a few days when the dirt seems fairly dry water it and then wait again.
I also suggest using a fabric grow bag. 3 or 5 gallon is common. Roots do better in those fabric bags as they dont get root bound.

This is the soil I have bought for the transplant already… Will this be okay or shall I get a diffrent type?

And this is the fertiliser I have found a dry one.
When should I start to use this?

I am having internet issues…I may go dark on you for a while…
That soil has food in it already. It may or may not be good for cannabis.
If you have to use it then just watch the plant for issues like yellow leaves and then try feeding. If you can find some Happy Frog or Coast of Main soil those work better.
At the very least a soil with NO added food. Miracle grow is hard to grow cannabis in because the food is wrong for it.
I probably need to go reset my router.
Someone else will chime in. Lots of great growers here.
@MidwestGuy , perhaps you can take over.

Are you in the states or across the pond?

I would repot it. No water or food. Good light and dry that soil out. Soon as she shows she wants water start back up. Probably wont need to feed for a few weeks. When water keep ph in line. Just my thoughts.

You should be good to use what you have currently for this stage of growth. In the meantime, search for cannabis friendly soil. I would only feed once every 20 to 30 days. Need to find some dry amendments for your flowering stage tho. Little to no nitrogen with more P&K. Water lightly and she will talk to you.

Drop anouther seed in anouther container and see if it passes this one. If so keep the good plant and move on. Good genetics is key. Sometimes even from the same plant you get a misfit that is hard to grow. Any plants that do this I personally cull. That is why I plant 6 seeds when I only need 4. Keep the strong cull the week. A lot of the time all 6 look good and then its a hard decision on what stays and what goes.
