New Grower, Baby Boomer

Ok here goes: I’m brand spanking new! On about Jan 31 I set up my 1 x 1 meter Lighthouse2 tent. I have a 2020 Spiderfarmer SF 4000 light. I started 4 Strawberry Pie autos in 3 gal pots with some potting soil that had vermiculite etc in it. It’s professional potting soil. My Grandson and I filled the pots gradually and sprayed well water on the dry soil as we went. He has a degree in Horticulture. We carved out a hole about as big as a fist and put in some coco seed starting mix. We placed the seeds one seed length deep. I placed the light about 18 inches above at about 40 percent. They all sprouted good. I watered by spraying the top of the soil. I also poured water into around the little sprout. I added a thermometer and heater since the tent is in unheated garage. I noticed water on interior walls so I knew humidity was high. I bought a Govee Temperature/Humidity meter. My suspicions were correct. 70 percent to 74 percent humidity. I opened the vents. I then bought a Vivosun moisture meter. It’s showing right in the middle or more. In the green. I just raised the light to about 24 inches and increased the power to about 65 or so percent. Also the soil settled so I added soil to the underside of the first leaves. I also added a Vivosun clip on fan. I’m thinking of adding a Infinity T6 pro system. I’ve also ordered some fertilizer. Should be here in a couple days. See pics.

Welcome aboard. Retired boomer myself. Most of the kids call boomer as an insult. I wear it with pride. Retired. No debt. Secure. Lets see the kids say that in 30 years.

Yep. I retired and after 4 years I just went back to work as a seasonal worker in the food court selling hot dogs and a Pepsi for $1.99. They asked me to stay on. My motto is “I’m making 70 look like 40”

Welcome to the community!
Looks like you did your research prior to starting
Kudos!

Along with humidity is temps and they go hand in hand.
Seedlings like high humidity. The moisture on the walls of the tent are likely due to the temp difference between inside and outside tent temps being in the garage. It it heated?
What are your temps inside tent?
Day time temps/humidity
Nighttime temps/humidity
Here is a VPD (vapor pressure deficit) chart to reference relating temps to humidity and what stage growth they are in.
I keep it simple and just use 5, 10, 15, 20 as quick numbers to use to see where I need to be with temps in relation to humidity.
Seedlings 5
Early veg 10
Early flower 15
Late flower 20
Numbers are simple the difference between temp and humidity
If your tent temp is 80F your humidity should be about 75% or 5 less than your temps for seedlings.
Early veg temps 80 humidity 70 and so on.
The chart is a great reference.

Congrats on your adventure and the enjoy the day

Wow, I read something about them days. People respected each other. They said please and thank you. They left their doors open at night and left there bikes in the front yard.

The story did read, “Once upon a Time”…

I am trying to understand that VPD you are referring to. The Govee device records Temperature, Relative Humidity, Dew Point and VPD. It graphs them like a sine wave. The temp, dew point and VPD seem to all rise and fall in unison however the humidity is at it’s lowest. At this very moment, the temp is showing 77.0, RH is 46.5%. VPD is measured in kPa whatever that is. My grandson has a degree in horticulture. I will get him to look at this chart. Wait a minute, I think I got it. So if I go to 77 and then look at the top row for 45% I am in the purple Mid late flower stage. So at 77% I need to have 55-70 % humidity at the early veg stage. Is that right?

Inside your tent
Temps go up humidity goes down (relative)
Humidity goes up temps go down

There are ranges for sweet spots for each stage growth
Seed 5 difference
Early veg 10 difference
Late veg early flower 15
Middle and late flower 20

I use the cheat
5
10
15
20

Seedling if temps 75 then -5 so RH at 70%
Late flower if temps 75 then -20 so RH at 55%

The above chart shows where things should be but in my head it’s easier to just do the 5,10,15,20 quick math thing.

KPa is Kila Pascals or something like that.

You should currently shoot for 5 less than your temps for your humidity
So if 77F shoot for around 72%
This different changes as you go.
The VPD for seedlings is around .08
Early veg around 1.0
1.2 late veg early flower
1.4 middle and late flower
And so on…basically the air gets dryer as you progress towards flowering
These are good goals to hit but even getting somewhat close will be fine. The early part and the last part is the most important to try and keep in range.
Hope this helps

Thanks! That makes it easy. 5, 10, 15, 20. So in late flower if temp is 75, then subtract 20 for RH. shoot for 55 RH. That makes it easy. This works for auto flowers and photosensitive equally?
