I have read that neem oil sprayed on buds will alter the taste of weed. I can live with that. What I need to know is will spraying buds actually aid in botrytis growth?
I would never use neem on a flowering plant. Not really sure what exactly your asking
Agree with @Pinboy. Need oil should be avoided in flower. Peroxide can be used for any mold and Capt. Jack’s Deadbug should be used for critters when in flower.
I’m asking if spraying neem oil on buds will actually aid in botrytis infection. My next question is why would you not use neem oil on a flowering plant?
Will peroxide kill botrytis or is it strictly a preventative?
Most liquids can contribute.
It’s usually used to kill it. There’s no reason to even spray a plant with anything unless it is necessary.
It’s pretty difficult to remove any type of oil from harvested plant material.
Yeah… I’m gonna have to agree with others here, definitely don’t want to spray anything on the buds that your gonna be inhaling… ![]()
Peroxide is about your only choice.
Honestly, I would be asking what to do about whatever caused the bud rot. That’s what needs to be solved if I might suggest… if you haven’t already.
If you don’t mind me asking, are you sure it’s bud rot?
Either way, good luck and keep’em growin! ![]()

I’ll add, neem oil is an insecticide not a fungicide. Will neem oil kill bud rot - not that I know.
Seems problematic to me.
I don’t have any plants as of yet. I plan to grow outside next spring. My grow site is on a mountain top in the Eastern Blue ridge of Virginia. I am a first time grower and I am asking for advice as I have done a lot of research to be sure I get the best grow and harvest. Do you know how to use peroxide on plants ? What is the mix ratio? Thanks for your input.
@Budwiser69 .I pretty much started like you.I’m in SC so fighting the dreaded bud rot is always an issue.
In my experience I have used peroxide mixed 1 part peroxide to 4 parts water as a preventative. It’s not the cure all but imo I believe it helps.
I’ve grown the WW several times and the rain comes at the worst possible time.my strategy is to cover the plants and use a fan to blow moisture out.I still get some rot AND the only answer is to cut it out.,spray it before you cut it out to contain the spores.WW was a extremely productive grow.4plants = 2+ lbs.I pinched them back a lot to keep them short and bushy.
Last year I did Girl Scout cookies extreme, absolutely love them.
Good luck on your adventure
I have grown a lot of buds over the years in the mountains of Western NC I have had years with no problem, And other years with a lot of rain at the end of the season with high humidity not much you can do outside to prevent bud rot luck of the draw. Inside is going to be your best controlled environment. Good luck neighbor !
Like @kellydans mentioned, it’s all part of growing outside. Some parts of the country are better for growing outside than others. To my knowledge, and from what I have seen here, there really isn’t anything you can do, per say, to prevent it.
If you do get it, a mixture like mentioned above may help get it rid of it. Most times unless it’s just one or two buds, it usually doesn’t end well.
I have seen the best of them fight it outside, only to loose the battle. I have also seen folks get it on indoor grows with the same results but normally it’s easier to control your environmental conditions inside.
Good luck! ![]()

Outside, harvest date is the first sign of mold.
It will taste horrible and possibly make you sick. I have never seen Neem stop any molds here around seattle. It just makes your buds taste like the chemical pest and fertilizer section at your local hardware store. I used it religiously from the late 90s to the early 2000s. If I could go back in time I would tell younger me to knock off the Neem; and invest in apple Amazon.
Anyway, Neem will become a thick waxy fat glob at room temp. You have to warm it to get it to mix with an emulsifier. That thick waxy Neem will cling to you plant like bacon grease in your drain trap. Unless it’s a lil seedling I would hard pass on the Neem. There are so many better choices. And like mentioned, I don’t think it does anything for mold. Or very little, maybe?? It is mainly an insect pest deterrent.
My old friend @CurrDogg420 convinced me the way to go with Neem. He used Neem meal as a top dress.
Rather than spraying the extracted oil. It adds Nitrogen, and systemically adds low doses of azadarachtin to the plant via the roots. And makes the soil a big pass on root aphids and fungus knats. I still pass on Neem big time. In my humble opinion, if you spray it on budlets or big buds, those buds are destined to taste like s***. I would rather have a touch moldy buds to pick thru, than buds that taste like Neem. And I am not convinced that it helps at all for mold.
The best thing you can do is pick strains that are mold resistant. I love that you got feedback from other growers in your area as what strains to try next. And like everyone else said, Neem is not know for killing molds, nor have I found it to be affective in use.
Yup. I think it’s not even really a safety thing when used as directed, but definitely won’t taste good.
