What is Super Soil vs EWC
Any similarities?
Do you plant directly in EWC
Or use a base soil then add EWC?
Does this look legit to you?
Making your own potting soil:
Ingredients needed:
*Parts by volume
6 parts coir fiber
4 parts perlite
6 parts compost or earthworm castings (preferred)
Putting it together:
Mix the above ingredients then add 1.5 to 2.5 ounces of Nature’s
I don’t grow with coir, but it has the correct ratio of compost to media.
so Super soil, at least as I would define it, is usually a decent bag soil enriched with amendments and maybe even a little tweak to texture like add in some perlite. EWC or earthworm castings are just worm poop also called vermicompost. I have seen some people grow in straight EWC but it is not soil it’s just organic matter that’s been digested by worms. It is full of microbes and even has a small amount of soluble nutrition in it. I would consider it a soil ingredient more than a medium itself. I use them with my top dress to add microbes to break down all those organic compounds.
Right now I’ve been trying my hand at making my own soil with BAS amendments. I think I did equal parts peat moss, aeration(75% pumice and 25% rice hulls), and compost(50% EWC and 50% fish compost). So far it’s been real nice stuff and I’ve had no major issues.

@Gl1tch Ok, that clears things up immensely. I’m starting to understand. The plant takes what it needs from the soil. If there’s microbes eating microbes so to say.
Once I figure out the brands I want to use I should be fine.
I invested in ‘Nature’s living super soil’ and they suggested Coco loco with their amendment. I’m not sure that’s the best way to go.
Do you use RO water?

I’m starting new seedlings and really don’t want to screw these up.
Start with the best soil you can muster and the rest will fall in line. Obviously there are a lot of things that can go wrong. Bugs, acts of God, Over medicating and making dumb stoner mistakes, but at it’s heart organics is about good happy soil that’s teaming with life. I do use RO water quite often, but it’s not necessary in most cases. I use it a lot because I have extremely hard water, but if your not unlucky like me then tap water is good as long as you de-chlorinate your water before use. Leftover chlorine can damage the micro heard.
I’m really starting to like the mix your own soil method. I can control what goes in and build it to last in stead of having to buy soil every grow. Build a soil has lots of ingredients, kits, and pre mixed soils. It is a little pricey though to get started. Even if you don’t purchase their products, their website has lots of good info on organic cannabis growing. I’ve also seen a lot of people like the coast of Maine products.
I build my own soil, so I haven’t bough any for 6-7 yrs. I’d tell you to get the Build a Soil 3.0 mix and go from there. It’s been balanced with amendments and has pumice so it can be re amended.

Ok cool, I’m using RO on my new plants.
I have well water which has a small a small of ecoli in it. I still drink it with no problems.
Its high in pH, 7.5.
So I have to lower it.
I like RO because every one says it will stay in a good pH range of the medium?
My new plants are on RO.
The flowering 6 plants are on well water.

I’d tell you to get the Dominion Blend but shipping is insane, unless you can get it local in some places. That’s the soil mix that I make, but I know Duke would want me to give out his recipe to build it.
I go back and fourth between well and RO inside and outside I’ve just been using my well water. It is sadly more like 9.5+ PH and somewhere in neighborhood 1000mS depending on how hot it is. 7.5 isn’t bad for watering with. The bacteria in the soil will acidify it. No Idea about the e coil though. Thats out of my wheelhouse.
The BAS 3.0 is worth it and if you don’t mind getting your hands dirty it’s a little cheaper if you mix it yourself at home, but you’ll have to cook it.
This tank was spotless before I filled it, that’s not bacteria growing on top of the water it’s flakes of bicarbonate.

While I have your ear, do you have any thoughts on how to fix high bicarbonate water @Budbrother. I’ve been using white vinegar to bring it back a little but it takes a ton.
