First time auto grower. This Super Skunk plant started showing dark veins while being horribly overfed. Bud sites look strange too. BuildaSoil Light with some to dressing in 5 gallon fabric pots. 20/4 light schedule with Migro Aray 4x4 at 80% in 4x4 AC Infinity tent.
Welcome buddy. It does appears the have a few issues but looks totally within range. Theres a way around here. You posted pics. Give details of your grow. What soil, nutrients, lights, watering, ph nd ppm in and out. The experts around here can help you immensely and will need this info to best direct you. Super friendly forum. Just be kind and courteous. Youll get all the help you need.
Thank you! So glad i found this site! 4x4 tent with Migro Aray 4x4 LED, currently at 80%. BuildaSoil Light Soil that i overamended at some point with Craft Blend top dressing and BuildaBloom. My other Super Skunk looks totally different. 20/4 light schedule. Watering every couple of days. This is my other Super Skunk.
Regarding water, BuildaSoil claims that pHing isnt necessary with living soil, but recently I’ve gone back to pHing RO waterto 6.5.
It will get sorted out here. You’re in a great place to learn. There actually are instances where pH is a non factor. Fill out this and it will let everyone know how to help you.

Thanks!
Do you know the ph of your water source ? Im leaning towards the beginnings of a ph lockout. Do you have a ph meter ? PPM meter? A soil slurry would give you a great idea of whats going on in your soil. What most companies dont tell you is that you need to feed the microbes in your soil. A tablespoon of organic blackstrap molasses once a week diluted in your water will do. Also you need to replenish those microbes if the colonies in your pot are diminishing. A cup of worm castings top dressed will help with that. Lastly add a tablespoon of agricultural epsom salt to each pot every two weeks. Top dressing is fine. The epsom will provide mag and sulphur (not that you need sulphur) and also aide the roots in the uptake of nutrients. The more info you give us the more we can pick through. Remember that you want to pay attention to the new growth and as long as shes growing, everything will be fine. Also are these photos or autos?
Excuse my French, but this statement is total bullshit, I don’t care what anyone says.
—> “pHing isnt necessary with living soil”.
What about when using water from an r/o system?
- What strain, Seed bank, or bag seed (Super Skunk from Seed Supreme)
- Method: Soil w/salt, Organic soil, Hydroponics, Aquaponics, KNF (organic soil)
- Vessels: Pots, Grow beds, Buckets, Troths (5 gallon fabric pots)
- PH of Water, Solution, runoff (if Applicable) (recently have been pHing to 6.5; no runoff)
- PPM/TDS or EC of nutrient solution if applicable (not sure; BuildaSoil Craft Blend and BuildaSoil BuildaBloom)
- Indoor or Outdoor (Indoor; 4x4 tent)
- Light system (Migro Aray 4x4; 500W)
- Temps; Day, Night (80 day; 67 night)
- Humidity; Day, Night (around 55 always)
- Ventilation system; Yes, No, Size (6inch inline on halfway and 2 6" oscillating clip fans)
- AC, Humidifier, De-humidifier, (humidifier in tent; dehumidifier in room if necessary)
- Co2; Yes, No (No)
I’m using RO water that i am pHing down to 6.5. I did buy a moisture/pH meter recently and pH of soil was all over the place depending on where i stuck meter in pot. I recently purchased coconut powder and have been adding to water. Would this be a substitute for molasses for sugar? Im planning on adding some Recharge during jext watering. This has the microbes in it. I also have used RootWise from BuildaSoil. I will explore the empsom salts. I’m slowly learning not to overworry or overthink things…
I understand growers have different opinions, but i would hope the users in this site back up their opinions with some stated facts. I’m new to growing and love to learn-that’s why I’m here. You know what they say about opinions.
I’m sharing a link to BuildaSoil on their feelings on water pH. Please don’t shoot the messenger…
@Lostgirl are you taking any new patients?
It’s all good. Like you said everyone has their own preferences. I’m going to be checking my pH before feeding and checking runoffs pH in the future. It will only benefit my grow. If my autos weren’t little sissy Mary’s I wouldn’t have to check it. But being that autos are so sensitive, I feel the need to check. Especially that my current organic soil is bitch slapping one of my plants and she’s not liking it at all.
Supersoils, organics can be a hot mess until fully cooked out. Sometimes these autos can’t handle the nutrients/minerals and the pH fluctuations in that soil. It’s good to know the pH going in and coming out no matter what soil you use, this way u can adjust accordingly.
I’m learning with autos, less is more. My next auto grow will only be fed water until there’s a need to use a nutrient.
And how will you know when to use nutrients? My autos started acting weird, shrinking and showing some yellow, so i top dressed and fed…and burned the crap out of them in process. Autos do seem very sensitive and tricky-probably not the best for a newbie like me, but this Tangie with buds smells so good and i have some delicious looking 42FastBuds seeds I’m anxious to plant.
It’s ok. You live & learn from yours and other growers mistakes. You will be able to read your plants. They will tell you if there’s a problem. It’s not rocket science. Usually leaves yellowing have different meanings from water issues to ph imbalances, to nitrogen deficiency, etc. As we (newbies) learn, we will remember what caused it and how to fix it for future grows etc. it’s all a learning curve.
Now you know not to do that again. Always do nothing first, and research or ask for help for the issue your plant is dealing with. Once confirmed then take action to remedy the problem.
Newbies always take action first when they should do nothing before you identify the problem. They will rush to water the plant, or rush to add nutes making things worse as u experienced yourself. -
As for knowing when to use nutes, I will go by stages of the plants lifecycle. I’m going into flower now, so I know if I want to push the flowering I’ll start using bloom nutes like phosphorus & potassium only. I won’t use cal-mag unless the plant is showing signs of calmag deficiency.
When using nutes always use 1/4 the dose to see how the plants handle it. If they handle it well bump up the dose to 1/2 then to 3/4, then full dose. If you give too much at once you’ll notice your plant telling you it doesn’t like it via burnt tips, etc.
Trash that ph/moisture meter, they are not accurate at all. You will need a good ph pen to test your waters ph, as to when to feed, you’ll need an EC pen as well to check the EC or TDS in your runoff water, as well as runoff ph. You will be able to head off many problems with these readings before they become problems, Apera makes both types at a reasonable price.
Thanks very much for this. Much appreciated. I’ve learned that I’m a terrified grower and want as much help as possible. Even though they never complained, i feel i kind of wore out the boys at BuildaSoil with questions. Wish i knew about this forum earlier. I used to cringe before opening my auto tent. Now I’m excited! They all survived their nut burn and, although stunted, should yield some nice bud. GSC (in front) is even growing up and the others in various stages of filling in. Super Skunk in middle and Tangerine in back. So glad to have the support. Im confident, with your help, I’ll produce some tasty bud. I’m quality over quantity. Likely harvesting my first plants ever tonight. Trichomes say pull. I call them Big Red because of their hideous stalks. Overgrew them and they ran out of food. Nut burned them too. The life of a newbie…
Looking good let us know how it smokes and if it gets you stoned
you going to dry & cure yes? Have plans for that? GSC one of my favs.
