I’ve been thinking about mixing up a medium with Coco and FoxFarm soil. I believe I read somewhere that this is a great way to start.
I would consider adding 15 to 20 percent perlite.
Ok thanks for the info. I’m mixing up for the first time other than sand black dirt from the mud flats.
Coco and soil each have differing pH and watering requirements. Mixing them can create challenges. It’s a good idea to pick one and stick with it.
I have both and thought maybe doubling the amount of medium. I’ve never tried coco and read somewhere that it is a good medium
Coco is a great grow media.
Here’s why not to mix them.
Coco pH: 5.8 to 6.2
Soil pH: 6.3 to 6.8
Coco watering: water daily
Soil watering: water only when the soil dries out
Thanks. I’m going to use both separately and feed accordingly. I’m looking for some literature on Coco and the feeding habits. I use Jacks 321 and now that I think I figured out how to use it. I’m just trying to improve my growing. I do the auto’s. And have 6 or 7 different varieties to grow from
You’ll find that most everyone will tell you to feed daily in coco. You definately don’t want to let the coco dry out. Water to run off each time. Coco is great to grow in!
Thank You for the input.
So you just grow in the Coco all by it’s self?
For hydro, yes, it’s a soilless medium.
Sooo it sounds like I might be venturing into the HYDRO world. Hmmm
You can mix the (30%) coir with (70%) soil and (40%) perlite for a hybrid mix. That would be like the Fox Farms, Strawberry Fields, mix. It takes the 6.2-6.5 pH range.
I want to say that was the mix I saw a couple months back.
