Mars hydro vs bloom plus

So I’m upgrading from my plurble light in my smaller 2x2x4 tent. I. Not sure which light to go with. I was wondering if either of you had tried both or have tried one or the other.
It will be going on my veg tent.

I suggest the Mars Hydro. But that light is only 100 watts and you want closer to 200 for a 2x2.

I was under the impression theyre both 150 tru watts

They’re both 150 watts from the wall. They’re both have the good diodes (although I don’t know if the bloom plus are knock offs) but there’s been verified grows with the bloom plus. Obviously as well as the mars hydro.
The mars hydro has a warrenty two years longer. The mars hydro has roughly 25 more diodes. However the bloom plus has a wider coverage area.

My goodness, where’s my mind at? 5 rips deep in a fat bowl that’s where. My bad. I personally go for coverage, it’s easy to dial back if needed, but if you need more light than you have, it can be a pita.

I was leaning towards the bloom plus. Because looking at the light charts it has a wider coverage area but all I hear are those charts are lies!!!

If it’s for veg, not too much of a biggie, just in my opinion, but you could find better.

I actually bought, then returned, that very same Bloom Plus model. I have to say that I don’t believe their numbers they state. When I plugged it in, the brightness and color seemed the same as an off-brand “Amazon light” that I bought the year before that is also 150 watts, just for comparison, that I’ll get to in a second.

I had an issue/question for Bloom Plus. They never got back to me. Being my first attempt at contacting them, it gave me a not-so-good feeling about their customer service and their product. So, I returned the light.

Shortly after returning the light, HLG was having a sale. I bought their 150-watt Patriot, a refurb, so it was $26 less out the door than the Bloom Plus.

But, I was happily surprised/not surprised after I plugged in the HLG - it was much brighter and crisper than my “Amazon light” and thus also the Bloom Plus, again, also both 150-watt lights, as I mentioned earlier.

I asked HLG for spec numbers on their 150 watt, and was told that it’s 1200 … and Bloom Plus claimed theirs is much higher than that, when I know for darned sure it was much dimmer than the HLG.

So … that experience really did cause me to doubt many stated numbers and LED diode quality for many lights that are “out there”. But, as long as you know that/a light’s limitations, and find a good sale anywhere, it’s all good, of course.

Oh, so I don’t have experience with Mars Hydro. Just based on my experience and what I’ve heard, Mars very likely has better customer service, and likely better components and honest numbers, but I can’t say, and I haven’t checked out Mars in long time, though.

That’s all I really needed to hear. Because it just wasn’t adding up. This is the specs for both. But the bloom plus has around 25 less diodes so I don’t see how they could have better coverage with less lights

So what are some good lights for a 2x2???

I’m not the lighting expert, and others’ will add input. I just took a quick look at HLG’s site, this refurb looks interesting, $299. On their website, there’s a button to click for a 10% discount.

I used the TS1000 in my 2x2 until I upgraded both my light and my tent. The first thing I grew with it was GFOG from here. Below are a few pics. I had to upgrade as she outgrew the tent before I even flipped her.

On a budget, the TS1000 in a 2x2 is good IMO based on real world returns.

Just to chime in… I’m no light expert, but when I was researching, I learned that you can figure in a 5% loss per year in LED lights. So I went big, with a dimmer, and run it below max, just to get a good long life out of it.

HLG 260 works great in a 2x2 but out of your choices I’d go with the Mars

I run a HLG 135 in a 2 x 2 x 4 and would mention I use it as a veg tent. At 4’ plus the light the vertical growth will be a challenge keeping the plant from growing into the light. It can be done but upfront and continuous training will be needed :love_you_gesture:

I have a much bigger mars and it’s fantastic, I also have a spider farmer 1000 and I can veg. 3x3 no prob with it. I would look at a mars 2000 watter for your size.

I ordered the ts1000
This is what I’m growing currently in the 2x2 using the plurble light. I’m excited for the mars to be here tomorrow I believe. I need to figure out how to change the lights without burning the plant

Also while I have a thread about lights let me ask another question… I want to change my light cycle to 12 hrs of light during the night to help with humidity issues n the summer. How would I do that mid grow? 24 hrs darkness or 24hrs light

Do a 24hr dark and make the switch! They will not miss a beat!
