This time I’m looking for advice to control the climate in my grow room.
The room is maybe 10-12ft x 8ft and I have a 4x4 and a 3x3 tents inside, venting back into the room. I need to get the humidity down at least in the other tent, It doesn’t get below 55% at best now. I have a small 1liter dehumidifier in the tent but of course humid air from lung room is coming in.
I probably should figure out venting the tents outside somehow. How to do this, it’s a separate hut and we have an arctic winter outside…?
After this I could get a bigger dehumidifier to control the room itself…
Is there any other solutions, and if not, how to construct the vent out without freezing the whole room?
@Bentstick That would be good, but how to prevent cold air coming IN to the tents? As you can see I’m no expert in home renovation… I get up to -38 celsius here in the winter..
If I make a hole in the wall and pull duct tubes from the tents into that hole, I’m afraid I will find my plants frozen one morning…
Block, or wood frame, all can think of is if 4" vent some thing like a dryer vent with the louvers, I understand the -38 c we get the same with exhaust blowing out should keep the cold out, but that said may frost up with humidity, my tents are in a semi finished basement a room with no door so it disapates as exhausted, but summer time a absolute no way its humid everywhere!
I agree, vent outside of the lung room. Its not always practical to vent to the outdoors, but its ideal.
In a typical setup, you are venting to the outside and regulating the environment of your lung room, not exchanging outside air for tent air. Maintaining negative pressure in the tent by drawing lung room air in and expelling humid stale air outside.
So, best option would be to drill a hole in the wall, and install some kind of vent(is there vent’s that only allow airflow to one direction?).
Then I’d need a 2 to 1- connector as I have 2 tents with their own inline fans. Then just connect the ducting from the tents into that one and rock on?
After that is just to keep the temps and humidity in check in the lung room right?
I’m just thinking out loud here, doesn’t seem too complicated, I’m just worried about inviting the cold air in through that vent…
Oh yeah, you said that in your opener. I control the humidity in my lung room with a window ac unit, humidifiers, and I have a large dehumidifier standing by if I ever need it.
If you vent outside, positive airflow would keep the cold air out running the exhaust fan 24/7. Have a louvered duct as mentioned previously and a battery backup or auto-generator for times of power failures.

@d-Jawz Having the exhaust fan on 24/7 might keep the cold out. I also need to control the airflow out from the other tent as it has seedlings and a humidifier in it to keep the humidity at 75% and temps at 27c… I don’t think that would be possible with non stop suction from the tent.
Now I have the inline fan set automatic at those levels and it only runs when either one exeeds the set levels. I try to keep the humidifier and heater in the tent so the air changes a few times an hour.
Maybe simpler solution would be to keep venting the tents back into the room and have a BIG dehumidifier in there? At least it would keep the temps in control…
For two months, I have fought design and combinations.
End result:
My flower and Veg tent occupants need be swapped.
RH is 15% lower in right tent (Veg tent, bottom controller)
Tent temps always (double measured, AC-I and Govee’s).
Currently right tent has new T8 with Mega Charcoal Filter.
Left tent T6 smaller charcoal filter and T6 straight exhaust to attic.
Attic exhaust 24x7 min 100cuft/MINUTE (vents lung room and tents)
Easier to control separate tents (hooked together, also).
Dehumidifier is always ON.
Middle Controller used for Flower Lights.
I keep fans on lowest possible settings and then adjust according to desires.
Excuse my newbieness, but is there a reason to get the RH below 55%? It was my understanding that 80% RH in veg, and anything between 50 and 60% RH in flower was where you want to be?
