I am just about ready to purchase my tent. I am looking for someone to help guide me through my first couple grows. I will growing in soil and using clones. I am planning on using FFHF for seedling and transplanting into FFOF. Looking for a nutrient combo that is good for first timers. Was thinking the FF trio + cal mag and flushing agent.
Welcome to the family. Any question you have you can ask her and someone will help. Use thisnas you grow journal and lots of people will chime in… so what size tent are you thinking about? I use ffhf for my soil also and like it… but tends to be phd a lil low so you have to watch the ph. The fox farm trio is an ok nute line most people on here use jacks 321. But the fox farms trio is easy enough to use. I would just recomend doing so at half dose. Also need cal mag and ph up and down. A decent ph pen and a tds tester.
Welcome! Lots of good helpful folk here! Your tent is just the tip of the iceberg, most definitely will need good ph and ec testers, FF nutes are very salty and you will have to flush if you follow their feed schedule, which is too hot anyway. Lots here use Jacks 321 formula, me included. Some like the mega crop line. Advanced Nutrients ph perfect line is heavily endorsed by Lostgirl. Best advice I can give is don’t scrimp on light, but the best you can afford. In a 4x4 tent, you need 320 watts true pull, not rated by equivalent. I grow in Promix, plenty others here in soil. Happy growing.
I’ll tag you in my journal, have a look around.
Thanks all! Let’s get started.
@growdoc I was going to do a 4x4 ac infinity tent kit with a humidifier and dehumidifer. Was also going to get a 2x2 tent for drying.
Where can I find a feeding calendar for soil for the 321? There is not much info on their website.
Could you all make recommendations on a solid PH and TDS meter? Budget is no issue, I just want it work. Is it better to get probes for soil or test the water runoff?
Welcome! There is a world of growers here that will help you out. Utilize the search too. It’s a little overwhelming at first but you’ll settle in.
Apera meters are widely used.
I use Apera meters, a PH 60 and an EC 20. Not real expensive but good performance so far . Let’s make a checklist, even though I’ll forget something.
Tent
Light
Ph and EC meters plus calibration solutions
PH up and down, probably won’t need the down in your soil.
Nutrients Jacks Part A, Part B and some unscented Epsom salt
Scale for weighing nutes in grams
Thermometer/ hydrometer for tent
Humidifier and Dehumidifier, you’ll need both at different times
Carbon filter for smell control with inline fan ( will also provide air exchange for tent.
I’m sure there’s lots more, but this should get you off to a solid start.
Don’t bother with soil probes, generally inaccurate. Check runoff ppm and ph with meters.
You mix Jacks at 3.6 grams part a, 2.4 grams of part b, and one gram of Epsom. ( I run 1.5 because of my lights burn it up). That’s per gallon of water, but you will learn to vary the EC, or strength of your feeds according to last feeds runoff numbers. You will want to have runoff numbers at around 1000 ppm once they are growing good and get some size to them. You shouldn’t have to feed any nutrients for 4-6 weeks in FFOF soil, it has plenty in it already.
@growdoc This was extremely helpful. I noticed the 321 kit on Jacks site also comes with Bloom and a Finisher. Are those not needed to get started?
Not needed, you can run the 321 all the way, some of us kick it up to 4 gr of a, 2 gr of B and 1.5 Epsom in flower, for a bit more p and k. I do use the Blossom Booster by Jacks for the first two weeks after flip, Jacks recommends it also. Jacks can be mixed at an infinite number of ratios and strength, it’s really versatile. I stick with 321 or 421 so my ratios of nutes doesn’t get out of line. Weed is pretty finicky about what and how much it eats.
Nice, good to have an environmentally controlled space for a lung room!
Yes, some run it at the 3.6/2.4/1 all the way thru. Some go up to 421 in flower.
Good topic. Can’t wait to follow another one. I’ll be learning along the way.
Clones are taking from a plant in veg and past the seedling stage. I would recommend planting the clone in the forever pot and use the FFOF. This medium will feed the plant for approximately 6-8 weeks with water only…PH 6.5. I wouldn’t recommend the FF trio
Nice area. Plenty of outlets and room to move around.
I recommended jacks 321 but i think it goes best with soiless or hydroponics
