Lime in humidifier killed wick in ten days

just because i’m curious how things work. got a new humidifier ten days ago and it dropped from keeping room at 55% to 45%. i looked at wick and it looked bad already. i knew my water had lime in it and was 7.8 from the tap. i have been running the water thru a pitcher water purifier and it comes out 7.2 but when a drop of water is on a black tray a white circle is left behind, so not all the lime is out. i know i can add ph down to get to the 6.5 but what happens to the lime that is in there? it’s still there, right? was planning on using this water to water plants soon, been using distilled.

I have very hard water. My bathtub is yellow. I can scrub it with clr then 2 showers later, tub is yellow. I use same water for plants and have no problem

that is iron in water… mine has lime

I might be going a little far,but I run my hose water thru a rv water filter into a rain barrel that has a aquarium UV filter/aerator int the tank. And have a small 5 layer activated charcoal filter on the tap.
Water tastes as good as the filtered water we drink from our refrigerator. Runs just a little high in PH,around 7.5. Use a Ph adjuster. works great.

Lime is just calcium hydroxide. The RO Buddie reverse osmosis system is a very popular tool around here for making water, both for feeding and environmental control. Calcium is just one of the many things it rejects. Something to consider, perhaps?

Most people use distilled or ro water in humidifiers, as recommended by humidifier manufacturers. The lime scale from the hard water in your humidifier can also mess up your carbon filter.

Yes the lime is still there just desolved best way to deal it’s ut is by using a water softerner but that introduces high sodium levels and you would need a ro filter system after the softener
I also have high lime content in my well water and a ppm at 330 I use it all the time with no issues or I’ll effects
I use my water before the softener to water the plants
