Time for another update. 3/30/21 day 42. This is Red and is ready for today’s pruning. I am thinking she should be further along than she is. Thoughts? I’ll follow up a little later.
The left branch is bent from being tied down to slow down its growth. I released it yesterday.
2nd node growth points have been removed and the main stems topped above the 3rd node. Those two new growth tips will be topped at their first node when they have grown enough.
This is my first time growing in coco so many aspects are quite foreign to me (for you Foreigner fans - Feels Like the First Time) ok ok. I mentioned I am not sure if they are keeping pace with being in coco and using Jack’s 321. I know I am hesitant about watering. Soil habits are hard to break. I have been feeding on 4 day intervals at 400 - 600ml with 200 - 300 ml of combined runoff. Feed ph is 5.7 to 6.0 (once). Runoff ph has been decreasing. It started at 6.7 and is now 6.1 - 6.2 the last 5 times. PPM have been 2000s the 4 times. These are the recent feed and runoff numbers
Should I get over it and feed more often? I would not consider what I am doing now to be high frequency fertigation.
I have also had to add calmag. Check this photo out. Thoughts?
Should I bump up mag sulfate a bit. Say from 1.2g per gallon to 1.5g?
Any insights, thoughts are appreciated @Nicky@Not2SureYet@Hellraiser@PharmerBob
Red will be going into her final 5 gallon spring pot once she recovers from todays stress. Then into the autopot tray. I will continue to top feed for a week or so.
Till next time. Thanks in advance.
If run off ppm is higher than ppm going in you need to flush because salt build up has happened. Always ensure 20% run off minium or you’ll salt up over time in the root zone.
Feed. Every time you water unless your flushing.
Is that the only leaf doing that on the plant? Hard to tell. What it is from that image closer focused image? Maybe of 2 leafs to help figure it out.
Sure you can bump it I don’t see why not if that’s what you want to do but you shouldn’t be feeding 2000ppm… What’s your feed ppm?
The other main has some oddly shaped leaves but no discoloration like on the other branch.
The curled leaves are not as soft/ pliable as the others. They have been this way for a couple weeks.
Once they went into the 1 gallon I started feeding at 600 ppm then increased to 1000 - 1200.
I have not liked the runoff numbers from the get go. Not sure why they have been so high. The lowest was 1400 and otherwise consistently around 2000+. Initially I thought it might be because I started them in soil starter mix. But once they got into the 1 gallon with coco I thought the numbers would drop.
Tomorrow I will give them a good flush with 5.8 ph. Keep flushing until the runoff is _____ppm? Then feed normal jacks at 5.8 - 6.0 ph and 1000ppm?
Thanks
You have the plan just drop the run off below 1000 for sure it depends on your tap water going in to be honest.
Oh your feed to 5.8 and give it lots of run off to ensure it holds that PH, no point in PH’ing tap water under 300 ppm really
First off, thanks @Nicky. Gave them a good flush - about a gallon each. After the first 2 qts runoff was still 1000 ppm. Gave them another 2 qts and that brought the ppm down to 700.
Today was Blue’s turn. I topped the two mains and removed the second node growth points.
Her she is stapled and spread. I left the right side a little higher intentionally. Purple striping on the stems already.
Here is a good shot of one of the mains. You can see the first node growth points meaning she is a manifold. All other growth points removed except for the 3rd node where it was topped.
4/1/21 day 44. Time to transplant Red to the 5 gallon spring pot. @Arrow I was not sure how the one gallon transplanter would work and also not sure if coco holds together like soil. No problem. Undo the velcro and roll the sides down.
Looking good. Your run off should be between 200 ppm above or below what you put in. If you were feeding light and switch to full strength. It will take a few days for you to catch up run off wise. I have yet to see a need to do any kind of flush with Jacks though. it is pretty mellow compared to other nutrient lines. If it were me. I would just feed her full strength and wait for things to balance out. Over time. Your run off will sky rocket above what you are putting in. I have went in at around 800ppm and had run offs in the 1800ppm range with the last auto I did. It takes a while to get the run off down from that. I did straight water at the end and it took about 6 days to drop me down to the 800ppm range. I am only at about 950ppm full strength with cal mag, armour si, bud candy and big bud coco.
4/6/21 update day 49. This is Red. Wow, 7 weeks into it already and I am just now did the third and final topping.
Mr. Coco says this should take 4-6 weeks. I am good with it and in no rush. The development of the first node on all four branches took a while. You can see what my problem was. It started alternating leaf pattern and took me a while to recognize it and also for all the growth points to show.
My comments are easy to make your a great grower your plants look really healthy love your work and your support you given me at times.
Cheers @beardless
Yep. The one I call Red will be done Nugbucket’s method. The other one, Blue, is Nebula Haze’s method. I have four purple haze seedlings that are 9 days. I will have to fit them in the 3x3 so I think I will go Nebula with them.
I like Nebula’s technique better myself but I’m a SOG guy and it’s easier to keep them within the 14" of the bottom trays under my 5 gallon pots. Of course there are strains that can’t be contained with your foot in a steel box lol
The truth of the matter is I simply wanted to give Nugbuckets a try. So I figured why not. I am trying coco for the first time, an autopot for the first time so Nugbuckets’ mainline made perfect sense.
Blue update 4/8, day 51. Change in plans. Blue is my guinea pig this grow so I changed from a straight Nebula Manifold to a hybrid. I decided to top the mains again creating 4 colas on each end plus two at node 1 for a total of twelve. She just may end up as a clone donner and this way there will be more to choose from.
I think she is actually healthier than Red. None of the leaf issues Red has.
Continuing with the guinea pig theme Blue gets to try out a sub-irrigation pot. Red is in an autopot so I thought I would give this method a try.
I put a nursery pot inside a 5 gallon bucket, lined the pot with landscape fabric and provided a wick in the center.
Awesome work there brother. Shows you how much I know about growing. I thought a manifold was a manifold. Had no ide there were different kinds.
Again sweet looking!
