Mr. & Mrs. Spy here for another adventure.
I have a 10’ x 5’ room with a speed control 6’ exhaust fan filtering air out of the room (pictures of everything to come.)
We’ll be doing a single ILGM Purple Haze plant in a 27 gal beefed-up tote with a 6 inch net pot along with all the works; 4 air stones, tornado fan for the plant, and a chiller. Room temps will be OK. I also have a dehumidifier if needed, as well as a circulating water pump to circulate the water should I need it.

We have a question about the chiller. I noticed a lot of folks get the 1/4 hp but most have bigger system than what we have. We are curious if the 1/10 hp would work with the 27 gal tote (actual maybe 22 gal.?)
Thanks for the help!!
@dbrn32@Covertgrower@PurpNGold74 Please help if you can and anybody else that cares to help and follow. It’s gonna be a wild ride…lol
Actually, I do dB but don’t want to get over loaded right now with this first hydro grow. Still smoking on WW & SD that we grew over a year ago… roughly. Got plenty of lights if we want to expand, thanks to you.
I also have a sink and rack to store stuff in there.
We’re hoping to get a good size grow with this sense it’s such a good size area. I’ve got about a 4’ x 5’ to do whatever I need to with that one plant.
Thanks for any help.
Basically I chose mine because a 1/10 horsepower was $XXX dollars and the 1/4 horse (2 1/2 times) was $XXX+$9.00. I figured it was a cheap upgrade and if I wanted to scale up I could.
I am running a 40ga reservoir and might increase that size later. That’s why I went with 1/4HP. Also, like @Myfriendis410 said - the price difference wasn’t huge.
For a single 27ga 1/10th HP should be fine. But will you want a bigger res down the road?
I run 4 13 gal tough tote stations & a 27 gal control res on a 1/10 hp and it keeps up easily. The room temp is pretty steady at 74 or less so the chiller doesn’t work too hard. Insulation on the stations and control res will help significantly.
Thanks to all for your input. We decided to get the 1/10 hp simply because we just have no plans to grow more than one at a time.
It should be here by Sun.
I’ve still got some plumbing to do in that room but am hoping to have it ready by next week sometime.

I’m curious to Know your thoughts on starting in a five gal bucket to keep from making up so much water for the first month or so.
Any help will be highly appreciated.
Not a bad idea. I would just use a large enough net pot. One of those bucket lid types and just take lid off and put in the hole cut in your larger tote.
I’ve got a black hd bucket and lid with a 6” hole cut out for same size net pot. I’m hoping I’ll be able to just swap the net pot to the 27 gal tote?? Will that work?
Thanks @Myfriendis410
@HappyHydroGrower I move my 3" net pots up to 4 weeks of veg. I just have to check that the roots aren’t too locked on the air stones and lines. After that the root ball is really hard to fit through the hole without too much damage, so a 6" hole should offer a bit more time.
When I was doing SCROGs this is how I did it. I started them out with a 6" net pot lid on a 3 gallon pot, then moved them to a 14ga tote or 27ga tote depending on how many plants I was doing.
